The Essentiality Of Halaal Tayyib Food

” O People! Eat from the earth that which is halaal and tayyib, and do not follow in the footsteps of Shaytan. Verely he instructs you ( to commot ) evil and immorality, and that you fabricate about Allah what you know not.” ( Qur’aan )

Oh Rusul ( Messengers )! Eat from the Tayyibat ( haaal and wholesome foods ) and practise deeds of virtue. ” ( Qur’aan )

An essential and vital requisite for gaining Taqwa is the consumption of halaal and tayyib food. Haraam and Mushtabah ( doubtful ) food prouces shaitaaniyat ( Satanism ) in the human being.

BENEFITS OF HONEY

Honey in its natural raw state contains 2 predominant natural sugars (Fructose and Glucose) 11 enzymes, 14 minerals, 21 amino acids, all the vitamins that nutritionists consider necessary for health A,D,K, Rutin, Nicotinic acid, B vitamins, Thiamine, Riboflavin, Niacin, Pantothenic acid, Pyridoxine and Biotin as well as Ascorbid Acid (Vit. C.).

HONEY PROCESSING

Most honey sold today has been commercially processed, resulting in enzymes (which help digestion) and vitamins, being destroyed and protein (pollen) being removed. This processing involves heating and filtering through a cloth or fine filter paper. The end product will remain in a liquid state for a long period of time. When it finally starts to granulate, crystals will begin to form at the bottom of the jar, moving upwards (a sure sign of a refined and processed product, despite the label “Pure” Honey).

WHAT CAN RAW HONEY DO FOR YOU?

Raw Honey was and still is credited with marvelous curative powers. A whole book could be written on all the medicinal uses of honey, from thousands of years of folk medicine to the scientific of the present time.

In addition to its age-retarding properties raw honey has been proven to be from beneficial to extraordinary effective in the following:

* As honey is a pre-digested food (a process done by the bees) it enters the blood stream directly producing energy quickly, unlike refined sugar which has to be digested.

* Proline, an amino acid in Raw honey is the primary component in collagen. Collagen is the main structure in bones. (Proverbs 16.24—health to the bones) Calcium is also found in two forms in Raw Honey.

* Increases Haemoglobin count and can prevent or cure Anaemia. It is rich in iron and copper.

* Is an excellent mild laxative, especially recommended as such for infants and children.

* Raw Honey will prevent and even cure Botulism Poisoning, because it contains an enzyme called Glucose Oxidase, (this enzyme is easily destroyed with heat). Botulism spores can only develop in the intestines of infants when chronically constipated.

* It has been shown to be useful in Rheumatic and Arthritic cinditions, especially in combination with Apple Cider Vinegar (Dr D.C. Jarvis).

* It has been used successful in the treatment of liver and kidney disorders, diseases of the respiratory and digestive tracts, weak heart action, infectious diseases, colds, insomnia, poor circulation, and bad complexion.

* It is not mere theory, but has been proved that bacteria cannot live in the presence of raw honey, for the reason that raw honey is an excellent source of potassium. The potassium draws from the bacteria the moisture which is essential to the very existence. A bacteriologist who did not believe this, after a series of tests discovered to his amazement that the disease germs he tested (typhoid, Bronco-pneumonia and Dysentery producing germs) were all killed off in the presence of raw honey.

* In this book “Folk Medicine”, Dr Jarvis an ear, nose and throat specialist reveals some startling facts about raw honey and honeycomb. He says the honeycomb is excellent for the treating of stuffy nose, nasal sinusitis and hay-fever. He always says that raw honey can produce healing for skin burns and is essential in the diet of children because it provides the composite of minerals needed for the growing body ( iron, copper, manganese, silica, chlorine, potassium, sodium, phosphorous, aluminium, magnesium, zinc, lead and sulphor ).

* Probably the most beneficial effect of pollen (contained in raw unfiltered honey) is that, taken internally it quickly produces the same anti-putrefactive effect as lactic foods and thus contributes to a healthy digestive system and good assimilation of nutrients—absolute prerequisites for good health and long life.

Eating pollen rich raw honey causes rapid combustion, consuming fats which speed up the burning of fat, and continues through the bloodstream at a trickle stimulating the heart without harmful side effects.

KARACHI: Fruit ripened by calcium carbide can be ‘lethal’

By Faiza Ilyas

KARACHI, June 2: As the hustle and bustle at the Super Highway’s Sabzi Mandi, Karachi’s prime source of fruit and vegetable supplies, gradually subsides with wholesalers taking their stocks for the day, activity begins around 10am at a specific area reserved for mango trading. A number of workers, least bothered by the pungent smell that fills the area, are busy putting small packets in hundreds of crates, two in each, containing fresh green mangoes.

“This is ‘carpet.’ By the time the fruit will be transported to different markets in the country, it will have ripened and will fetch a good price,” says Mohammad Abrar, who does a whole variety of jobs at the mandi and earns Rs200 to Rs300 daily. About 300 to 400 trucks carrying around 8,000 tons of mangoes arrive every day at the mandi these days. The supplies will increase to about 20,000 tons by June 15.

Babu Chaman, who has been involved in the mango trade for generations, explains that what the worker was referring to as ‘carpet’ is actually calcium carbide. “The entire stocks of mangoes coming from Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Tando Allahyar, the areas first to witness mango harvesting in the country, these days are being treated with the chemical agent since mangoes are not ripe. The harvesting later begins in Tando Mohammad Khan, Hala, Matiari, Nawabshah, Tharooshah, Naushehro Feroz, followed by Rahimyar Khan, Multan and other areas in Punjab.”

Talking about the large-scale use of calcium carbide as a fruit ripening agent, Haji Mohammed Shahjehan, President of the Falahi Anjuman Wholesale Fruit and Vegetable Market, said that decades ago onions were used for the same purpose. In case of bananas, however, kilns were the norm.

“People turned to calcium carbide because the method was cost-efficient, easier and gave excellent results. Today, fruit matured with the help of calcium carbide are preferred as the fruit evenly ripens in this way and is neither too soft nor too hard. If fruit is left on trees, there are risks that it will get damaged due to weather conditions and subsequently cause losses to farmers besides affecting our business.”

The chemical compound – in the form of small blackish and white lumps – is wrapped in paper packets and placed inside a crate of about 27 mangoes. It is then closed and opened after 24 hours when the fruit is ripe. Babu Chaman, along with other fruit traders, claims that the chemical doesn’t cause any harm to the quality of fruit, but instead enhances its colour and taste.

“Traders transporting fruit from the interior of Sindh and Punjab to the city are not responsible for any chemical treatment. It’s the wholesale buyers and retailers throughout the country who use calcium carbide according to their own requirements. However, our long association with the business tells us that the chemical doesn’t cause any harm to the fruit’s quality. Rather, it enhances its taste and makes it a marketable commodity by ripening it and turning its colour yellow.”

Talking about the use of the chemical agent in the interior of Sindh, Nizam Din Memon, a mango grower, said that it was essential to get a good price of the commodity. “Many farmers selling their produce to different markets in the country ripen fruit with this method to get a good price. The chemical is easily available. About one kilogram of calcium carbide is enough to ripen 15 to 16 crates of mangoes.”

However, he didn’t agree with the notion that the chemical improved the fruit’s quality. “There is not only a difference of taste, but also of size. The mangoes do not properly ripen; some get too soft and some remain raw from inside, though their colour may change.”

A survey of the mandi revealed that the cheap chemical compound is also used for ripening many other fruit including apricots, bananas, papayas, plums and Japanese fruit, while the exceptions include apples, grapes, pomegranates and melons. Fruit traders claim that the use of calcium carbide reduces as mature produce starts arriving with the passage of time. For instance, they maintain, plums and peaches are not being ‘treated’ these days as the fruit is already mature when it reaches the market.

About the price of the chemical agent, Lala Jan, a shopkeeper at the mandi, said it was being sold at Rs90 to Rs100 per kg these days and he managed to sell 100 to 90 kilograms every day.

What is calcium carbide?

A banned ripening chemical agent in many countries, including India, calcium carbide is openly and commonly used for ripening fruit in Pakistan. A very strong reactive chemical, calcium carbide has carcinogenic properties and is used in gas welding for steel goods.

About the use of the chemical agent in fruit ripening, Dr Abid Hasnain of Karachi University’s department of food science and technology said that when calcium carbide comes in contact with moisture, it produces acetylene gas, which is quite similar in reaction to the natural ripening agents produced by fruit known as ethylene.

“Acetylene acts like ethylene and accelerates the ripening process. It’s an artificial way of ripening fruit and, therefore, not advisable. People must wash all types of fruit before consumption, or else it will burn their skin and will cause other health problems.”

In developed countries, he said, ripening chambers were set up at processing plants, where fruit is treated with controlled purified gases, usually artificial ethylene.

“All safety precautions are observed and there is no question of harmful residues since fruit does not come in direct contact with any chemicals.”

This reporter contacted different educational and research institutions in the country, including the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, to find a local study on the subject, but failed. There are, however, some studies available on the internet. One such study is Calcium carbide poisoning via food in childhood, conducted at the medical faculty of Erciyes University, Kayseri, Turkey in 2005.

The research states: “The fast ripening of fruit means they may contain various harmful properties. A commonly used agent in the ripening process is calcium carbide, a material most commonly used for welding purposes. Calcium carbide treatment of food is extremely hazardous because it contains traces of arsenic and phosphorus.

“Once dissolved in water, the carbide produces acetylene gas. Acetylene gas may affect the neurological system by inducing prolonged hypoxia and can cause headache, dizziness, mood disturbances, sleepiness, mental confusion, memory loss, cerebral oedema and seizures. When mixed with oxygen, calcium carbide acts as a sedative and has been used in anaesthesia. The use of artificial ripening agent can be fatal. Excessive consumption of calcium carbide-laced fruit can cause intoxication.”

The report cites the case of a five-year-old girl who was transferred to the emergency department of the university’s hospital with an eight-hour history of coma and delirium. A careful history from her father showed the patient ate unripe dates treated with calcium carbide.

The study further states that in some cases, it’s only the skin that changes colour, whereas the fruit itself remains green and raw. When the carbide is used on very raw fruit, more of the chemical is needed to ripen the fruit. This makes the fruit even more tasteless, unhealthy and possibly toxic. The report concludes that fresh vegetables and fruit must not be consumed without being washed properly.

Experts comment

Asked if there were any rules and regulations on the use of calcium carbide as a ripening agent, EDO for Health Dr A.D. Sajnani replied in the negative. “I doubt that any research has ever been conducted on the subject in the country. I am also unaware of any harmful effect of the chemical agent on human health, though I feel it does affect the nutritional value of the fruit since it’s an artificial way of ripening fruit.”

Commenting on the problem, Dr Samrina Hashmi, General-Secretary of the Pakistan Medical Association Karachi, said: “Regular intakes of the chemical may cause irritation of digestive system, diarrhoea, jaundice and liver failure. Free radicals from carbide play a major role in the ageing process as well as in the onset of cancer, heart disease, stroke, arthritis and perhaps allergies.“The departments of health and agriculture should realize the gravity of the problem and ban the practice of ripening fruit with chemicals and also the use of toxic colours in food products.”

KARACHI: No curbs on food adulteration

By Bhagwandas

KARACHI, Aug 3: A large number of food items and other edible commodities available in the market are adulterated with different contaminants, many of which are injurious to health, it is learnt.

According to sources, though food inspectors of the city district government’s regulation and quality control (health) department carry out raids and collect samples, many of which turn out to be adulterated, and the culprits are booked, owing to the ridiculously low fines imposed on them, the menace of adulteration persists.

One of the main reasons why the adulterators flout the law could be that there is not a single example in which an adulterator sentenced to imprisonment (though it is very rare) by a lower court has actually served his complete term, as the few people ever sentenced to prison term move the higher courts and are acquitted by them.

The most glaring of adulteration is this that the prices of various spices  such as chillies, turmeric, etc — available in powered form are less than the cost of these items in raw form, though during grinding some quantity is lost and expenses of grinding and profit of the additional people is also included in the final product.

The sources in the department told Dawn that various ingredients had been found in samples of different food items collected by the staff and checked in the city government’s laboratory.

The food items and the adulteration used in them, according to sources, are:

chaff and colour is added to red chillies during grinding;

papaya seeds and colour are added to raw black peppers;

chaff and colour is added to coriander powder;

low-quality ground rice and colour is added to turmeric powder;

low-quality pulses,yellow peas, rice and wheat in powdered form and colour are added to gram flour, refined flour, semolina are taken out of good quality wheat flour;

low-quality sea salt, which is not properly filtered, is added to the relatively expensive Lahori salt;

gram skin and colour are added to both green and black tea leaves.

Bacteria find their way into the juices when either the containers are damaged or they are not properly stored. Water, ice, cow milk, goat milk or sheep milk are added to buffalo milk and sometimes corn flour is also added so that it does not become diluted.

Low-quality or used ghee and oil are used in bakery items.

Rice flour, colour, acid etc are added to tomato ketchup.

Cow, sheep and goat milks are added to buffalo milk to prepare milk powder.

Acid in diluted form is sold as the vinegar.

Bacteria may find their way into packed milk owing to improper storage or mishandling.

Artificial flavours and colours are added to custard powder.

Low quality supari, chemicals, artificial katha, colour is used in paan-masala.

Simply tap water is packed in bottles and sold as mineral water which sometimes even contains e-coli.

Low-quality sugar, brown sugar and colours are used in preparing syrups.

Low-quality chillies, oil and acid in diluted form (substituting vinegar) are used in pickles.

Sheep, goat, cow milk are mixed to get ghee from these and is sold as ghee taken from buffalo milk.

Ice is prepared from tap water.

Acid is used in soya sauce,

low- quality chillies, acid and colour is used in chilly sauce, low-grade colours that are used for industrial purposes are sold as food colours.

Artificial katha is sold as natural katha (which is the skin of a tree trunk).

Responding to Dawn queries, Chief Food Inspector Abdul Waheed Bhatti, who with his 12 deputies is in charge of catching adulterators in the city, suggested that more inspectors be recruited as the city was too big for his team. He also suggested that a special magistrate be posted exclusively to try adulterators, as was a previous practice, so that cases were decided within a few weeks. Now the cases are heard by judicial magistrates, who are already overburdened, and some of the cases have been pending for over five years.

He, however, insisted that the situation of adulteration was not as bad in the city as it was perceived as only 20 per cent of the samples collected by food inspectors are found adulterated.

We are not sure  whether measles and mumps vaccines are available  throughout the USA although one contact in Kentucky has obtained these from Merck. I have written to Merck to confirm whether they will still supply these vaccines . Both are from chick cell lines. Please E mail me if you have any information on the the availability of these vaccines . Please say if you are writing from the USA and if you wish which state you are from.

State law regarding vaccination for school entry

Most US states require children to be vaccinated for kindergarten, school and college entry. However exemptions may exist for parents who have a conciencious objection. I will try to add details of the laws in states as I find out about them.

Minnesota
Informed Consent /German Measles Vaccine
( submitted by Christina Abel RN (Ret.)

In the state of Minnesota, children can go to school without being vaccinated. A notarized signature is all that is required to be in compliance with the 1980 Minnesota immunization law, M.S. 123.70 Subd. 3(d) and in 1989, for post-secondary students, M.S. 135A.14 Subd. 3(b).

Flu Vaccine Fact Advertisement

Again its time to consider being injected with rotten eggs in the illusive search for a flu free Winter. If you have not already decided to avoid the flu shot like the plague, then you may be interested in the following:

In 1997 the Associated Press stated that about 70 percent of doctors and nurses do NOT get annual flu shots.

The Maine (US) Lung Association says, for the USA, “Over the past twenty years, age specific death rates for pneumonia and influenza have increased in the older adult populations [over age 65]…”

However, since 1980, death rates in the over 65 age group from influenza have been increasing, while flu vaccination rates since 1987 also increased from 33% to 65%. These figures show that vaccination is the wrong approach for achieving improved health or reducing the number of deaths.

In fact, studies of large scale compulsory flu vaccination in Japanese school-aged children showed the vaccine to be ineffective and conducive to law suits due to adverse side effects.

Measles

What is Measles?
Measles is a very contagious disease that produces a pink rash all over the body. It is caused by a virus that affects the respiratory system, skin, and eyes. The first symptoms appear about 10 days after becoming infected. A fever, cough, and runny nose develop, and the eyes become red, watery and sensitive to light. The fever may reach 105 degrees F (41 degrees C). Small pink spots with gray-white centers develop inside the mouth. A few days later, pink spots break out on the face. The rash then spreads all over the body. Once the rash reaches the feet in two or three days the fever drops and the runny nose and cough disappear. The rash on other parts of the body begins to fade, and the infected person starts to feel better.

Antibiotics and drugs do not work to shorten the duration or alleviate the symptoms of measles once it is contracted. Treatment mainly consists of allowing the disease to run its course. However, cool sponge baths and soothing lotions to relieve the itchy rash may be helpful. Drinking lots of liquids to prevent dehydration is recom-mended as well. The disease confers permanent immunity; the infected person will not contract it again.

Is measles dangerous?
Prior to the 1960s, most children in the United States and Canada caught measles. Complications from the disease were unlikely. Previously healthy children usually recovered without incident.(1) However, measles can be dangerous in populations newly exposed to the virus,(2) and in malnourished children living in undeveloped countries.(3,4) Ear infections, pneumonia, brain damage (subacute sclerosing panencephalitis), and death are some of the possibilities.(5) In advanced countries, measles can be severe when it infects people living in impoverished communities with poor nutrition, sanitation, and inadequate health care.(6) Complications are also more likely when the disease strikes infants, adults, and anyone with a compromised immune system.(7)

Scare Tactics: Doctors and other health authorities often try to frighten parents about measles by exaggerating the risks. For example, vaccine pamphlets published by the CDC claim that 1 out of every 1000 children who contract measles will get encephalitis, an infection of the brain.(8) However, Dr. Robert Mendelsohn, renowned pediatrician and vaccine researcher, had this to say: The incidence of 1/1000 may be accurate for children who live in conditions of poverty and malnutrition but for just about everyone else the incidence of true encephalitis is probably more like 1/10,000 or 1/100,000.(9) Furthermore, about 75 percent of these cases will not show evidence of brain damage.(10)

Vitamin A and Nutrition: Several studies show that when patients with measles are given vitamin A supplements, their complication rates and chances of dying are significantly reduced. For example, as early as 1932 doctors used cod-liver oil high in vitamin A to treat measles and lower mortality by 58 percent.(11) Studies conducted in 1958 and 1961 confirmed that the wild measles virus has a severe short-term effect on immunity and the childs nutritional status, especially vitamin A and nitrogen metabolism.(12,13) But antibiotics – later shown to be ineffective at treating measles – soon replaced vitamin A therapy, and by the 1960s vaccinations gained preference over treatment protocols. However, during the mid-1980s new studies demonstrated an increased risk of diarrhea, respiratory disease, and death in children with mild vitamin A deficiency.(14,15)

In a 1987 study conducted in Tanzania, Africa, 180 children with measles were randomly divided into two groups and received routine treatment alone or with 200,000 i.u. of orally administered vitamin A. Mortality rates in the vitamin A group were cut in half. In fact, children under two years of age who did not receive vitamin A were nearly eight times more likely to die (Figure 1).(16)

In 1990, the New England Journal of Medicine confirmed that vitamin A supplements significantly reduce measles complication and death rates.(17) In 1992, researchers measured vitamin A levels in children with measles and determined that deficiencies were associated with lower levels of measles-specific antibodies, higher and longer lasting fevers, and a greater probability of being hospitalized.(18) The authors of the study recommended Vitamin A therapy for children under two years of age with severe measles.(19) And a 1993 study showed that 72 percent of all measles cases in the U.S. requiring hospitalization are deficient in vitamin A. The greater the deficiency, the worse the complications and higher the probability of dying.(20)

Malnutrition is clearly responsible for higher disease complication and death rates.(21) According to David Morley, infectious disease expert, Severity of measles is greatest in the developing countries where children have nutritional deficiencies… The child with severe measles and an immune system suppressed by malnutrition secretes the virus three times longer than does a child with normal nutrition.(22) Dr. Viera Scheibner, vaccine researcher, summarizes the data more succinctly: Children in Third World countries need improved vitamin A and general nutritional status, not vaccines.(23)

Fever Reducers: Poor nutrition and a vitamin A deficiency are not the only factors known to increase measles complication and mortality rates. Standard treatment protocols may be detrimental as well. For example, when doctors administer antipyretics (fever reducers, such as aspirin) to control the rising temperature in measles patients, greater problems are likely. In one study during a measles epidemic in Ghana, Africa, children were divided into two groups. One group received antipyretics – typical at many hospitals. Mortality was five times greater than in the group that did not receive this treatment (Figure 2).(24) Researchers concluded that children with the most violent, highly febrile form of the disease actually had the best prognosis.(25)

In another study conducted in Afghanistan, 200 children with measles were divided into two groups. Once again, members of one group received aspirin to lower fever. The study revealed that children receiving the antipyretics had prolonged illness, more diarrhea, ear infections and respiratory ailments, such as pneumonia, bronchitis and laryngitis, and significantly greater mortality rates.(26) According to Dr. Harold Buttram, who studied the data, it could be inferred that interference with the natural course of the disease significantly dampened the immune responses of the children.(27) The authors of the study noted that the adverse effect of antipyretics, which makes the course of the disease longer, facilitates superinfections which give rise to high mortality.(28) This study also suggests that children suffering from measles should be kept warm enough in order to have fever and pass the disease safely.(29)

Dr. Robert Mendelsohn agrees that fevers should not be suppressed: Doctors do a great disservice to you and your child when they prescribe drugs to reduce his fever… When your child contracts an infection, the fever that accompanies it is a blessing, not a curse… A rising body temperature simply indicates that the process of healing is speeding up. It is something to rejoice over, not to fear.(30) Other researchers have noted that the development of cancer may quite possibly have been given a boost in certain cases through the repression of febrile conditions.(31) In fact, pyrexia (a condition resulting from fever inducers) has been used in the prevention and treatment of carcinomas.(32) Despite the evidence implicating antipyretics in prolonging disease and raising mortality rates, Dr. Scheibner ruefully observes that the relentless suppression of fever in children with measles is still widely practiced.(33)

Does a measles vaccine exist?
In 1758, Francis Home conducted the first experiments to prevent measles by inserting measles-infected blood into deliberate cuts made on healthy people.(34) He claimed that his variegation technique caused a milder form of the disease. However, the procedure was not without danger; variegation was known to spread syphilis, tuberculosis, and several other diseases.(35)

In 1940, the U.S. military tested an experimental measles vaccine on enlisted personnel. Following severe reactions, the program was ended.(36) In 1954, a team of virologists headed by John F. Enders, an American scientist, found a way to separate the measles virus from other substances and grow it in living cells.(37) In 1960, Enders vaccine was tested, and in 1963 both a live-virus shot and an inactivated vaccine were licensed. By the mid-1960s, several measles vaccines were available and being administered to millions of young children in the U.S. However, in 1967 the inactivated vaccine was removed from the market because it did not provide long-term immunity and was causing atypical measles.(38) By the early 1970s, Canada and other countries had begun nationwide measles vaccination campaigns.(39,40)

How safe is the measles vaccine?
The measles vaccine has a long history of causing serious adverse reactions. The pharmaceutical company responsible for producing the measles vaccine publishes an extensive list of ailments known to have occurred following the shot. Severe afflictions affecting nearly every body system’s- blood, lymphatic, digestive, cardiovascular, immune, nervous, respiratory, and sensory – have been linked to this preventive inoculation. These include: encephalitis, subacute sclerosing panencephalitis, Guillain-Barr syndrome, febrile and afebrile convulsions, seizures, ataxia, ocular palsies, anaphylaxis, angioneurotic edema, bronchial spasms, panniculitis, vasculitis, atypical measles, thrombocytopenia, lymphadenopathy, leukocytosis, pneumonitis, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, erythema multiforme, urticaria, deafness, otitis media, retinitis, optic neuritis, rash, fever, dizziness, headache, and death (Figure 3).(41)

The manufacturer also warns that the measles vaccine has not been evaluated for carcinogenic or mutagenic potential and it is…not known whether [it] can cause fetal harm when administered to a pregnant woman or can affect reproductive capacity. Thus, it would be prudent to assume that the vaccine strain of virus is…capable of inducing adverse fetal effects. Also, caution should be exercised when…administered to a nursing woman.(42)

Neomycin is an antibiotic.

Neomycin is used to reduce the risk of infection during surgery of the bowel. Neomycin is also used to reduce the symptoms of hepatic coma.

Neomycin may also be used for purposes other than those listed here.

What is the most important information I should know about neomycin?

Neomycin may cause damage to the kidneys and/or nerves. Kidney function and drug levels in the blood may be monitored with blood tests during treatment. Tell your doctor if you experience decreased urination, hearing loss, ringing in the ears, feeling of fullness in the ears, dizziness, numbness, skin tingling, muscle twitching, or seizures which may be signs of kidney or nerve damage.

TABLIGH JAMAA’T

Q. While I was delivering furniture in Lenasia, I noticed a young girl aged 12 or 13 and her small brother riding bicycles in the street. A group of boys approached her and started kicking her bicycle. It was clear that she knew them from school, etc. One boy from the group said to her: ‘I’ll rape you.” I then jumped off the back of the truck and went for them all. The boy (a Muslim) said that he was joking. I hit him with the baton I keep with me. I made the others bend down and gave them six of the best like we used to get when we were small. I took down all their details. They were collecting money for their school. I called their parents and also took them to the police station and laid a charge of attempted rape. They could not be charged, but the child protection unit was sent to the school to interview them, etc. I turned my attention to the girl and asked her where her dad and mum were. She said that her dad was away in Jamaa’t for four months and her mother was working. Her eldest sister was indoors when this incident happened. I would really love to bring this episode to the attention of the elders of the Jamaa’t in Johannesburg. This brother should be blacklisted for prostituting his wife and his daughter while he goes on a holiday/picnic. Please comment.

A. Alhamdulillah, you reacted correctly. May Allah Ta’ala reward you for your Deeni concern. Parents are the primary cause for the destruction of their children’s morals. This father/husband is indeed shameless and a good-for-nothing fellow. He deludes himself with his four-months outing or camping/picnicking as you describe it. In the circumstances it was undoubtedly haraam for the girl’s father to go out with the Jamaa’t for four months thereby exposing his daughter to the immoral wolves which prowl around. Furthermore, this man is a spineless creature for allowing his wife into the streets to earn a living while he camps and picnics. The Waajib duty of the father is to work, earn and support his family while the mother has to remain at home taking care of the children. The Jamaa’t elders should be more circumspect when they enlist prospective participants, especially when the absence from home entails long periods and absence from the country. A man should not go for any journey if he is unable to make adequate Shar’i arrangements for his wife and children or for any other of his dependents such as parents, etc. What type of tabligh is it which requires a man to leave the shop in his wife’s care while he is away? He casts his wife into the cauldron of zina by such haraam action. Nowadays, we find an inversion of roles, hence everything nowadays is inverted and upside down. Even the chickens are killed upside down. The father of this girl is a Dayyooth. Instead of working for the bread of his family, he wanders around, shirking his Waajib duties and sponging on his wife. He should drown himself in shame. You should inform the elders of the Tabligh Jamaa’t of this rotten episode.

Q. Does a man have to keep purdah for his mother-in-law’s sister and for his grandfather-in-law’s sister?

A. Yes, a man has to maintain total Purdah for his mother-in-law’s sister. In fact, he should not be free with even his mother-in-law. Even for her there should be a degree of purdah. He also has to maintain full Purdah for his grandfather-in-law’s sister.
