‘Umar Ibn ‘Abdul ‘Azeez رحمه الله had a staircase in his home. The staircase had one particular brick which was loose and would shake whenever he used to step upon it.
servants
One day, his servant decided to attach the brick firmly into place.

The next time ‘Umar Ibn ‘Abdul ‘Azeez رحمه الله used the staircase he immediately realized that the brick was no longer loose and asked, “Why does this brick no longer shake?”

The servant replied, “We decided to repair it by attaching it firmly into place.”

‘Umar Ibn ‘Abdul ‘Azeez رحمه الله said, “The loose brick served as a gentle reminder to me. Whenever I stepped onto it I would remember the Bridge of Siraat, and declare, ‘O Allaah! When I am afraid of a small brick falling from a staircase, how will I be able to cross the Bridge of Siraat?’” [Jawaahir Paare, vol 1, p169]

Such is the insight of the righteous. They understand the deeper meanings of life which are beyond the material pleasures of this world.

During the Mi’raj when Angel Jibrail and our beloved prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam reached the Sidratul Muntaha Jibrail said to Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam that he cannot go beyond that point and if he did move beyond that point, his wings wiould get burnt. He, sallallaahu ‘alayhi wsalaam proceeded by himself to the throne of Allah subhaanahu wata’ala.

When finally, Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam reached the Arsh (throne) of Almighty Allah a dialogue took place between them.

The Tashhud (Attahiyaat) Muslims recite in every prayer, is the first dialogue between Allah and Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam. When a beloved visits his beloved, they supposed to exchange gifts. This is the recommended tradition of Islam. That is why, when Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam arrived at the Arsh of Allah, he brought the best gift.

He presented, “All verbal praises are for Allah and all physical and monetary devotions are for Allah”

In exchange Allah said, “Peace be upon you O’ Nabi and the mercy of Allah and His blessings”.

At this highest point Prophet Muhammad sallallaahu ‘alayhi wasallam showed how much love he has for his Ummah. He wanted to include his Ummah as well in the peace of Allah. Therefore, he said, “O’ Allah your peace is on us (Ummah) and on your pious people”. Although in “us” everybody was included, he separately mentioned the pious people and included the sinners with himself for the blessings of Allah. What a merciful Prophet (May Allah shower the best of peace and blessings upon him)!

Upon hearing this Jibrail recited “I bear witness that none is worthy of worship besides Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His messenger”…and this is what is recited in every Salaah!

To the Muslim wife…
Asslamo Allaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh,
The spiritual core of the Muslim ummah is rotting and the decay is manifesting itself in many different ways none more evident than the breakdown of relationships between Muslim families. Violation of spousal rights and even downright physical and emotional abuse is on the rise and may Allah (SWT) protect all of us and our families (Ameen).
Muslim husbands of course have responsibilities but our daughters also need to be spoken to as the degradation of relationships isn’t only down to Men!
Superiority of Men: My daughter, Allah (SWT) has given your husband superiority to you in clear, unambiguous words and if you try to take even equal footing (let alone superiority) know that you are arguing and fighting against a command of Allah (SWT) and not your husband and as long as you are fully and rationally willing to accept the consequences of taking what comes your way when you oppose Allah (SWT), there isn’t anything anyone else can do.
[4:34] Men are caretakers of women, since Allah has made some of them excel the others, and because of the wealth they have spent. So, the righteous women are obedient, (and) guard (the property and honor of their husbands) in (their) absence with the protection given by Allah. As for women of whom you fear rebellion, convince them, and leave them apart in beds, and beat them. Then, if they obey you, do not seek a way against them. Surely, Allah is the Highest, the Greatest.
Know that there is no classical Scholar of Qur’aan, Hadeeth or Fiqh who has EVER given a Fatwa or an opinion that women are equal to men! So next time when you are browsing the Internet and come across an article or youtube video proclaiming anything otherwise then know that it is BASELESS!
Serving the Husband: My daughter, your foremost duty is to serve your husband and look after the needs of your household after fulfilling the obligations (prayer, fasting etc) of Islam in absolute service to your husband. Your duty is not Dawah, not blogging, not maintaining web sites, counselling other Muslim women and if your husband allows this or your service to him isn’t affected by doing Islamic propagation then so be it.
But be under no illusion that your primary duty is to serve your husband.
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, “If I were to order anyone to prostrate himself before another, I would have ordered a woman to prostrate herself before her husband”. [At-Tirmidhi]
Responding to the husband sexually: My daughter, it is your Islamic duty to respond to your husband when he calls you to bed. If you have a baby or children then ensure that your husband has a chance of privacy with you and don’t wreck your relationship on account of your children and looking after them and putting them in the bed besides you etc.
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, “When a man calls his wife to his bed, and she does not respond and he (the husband) spends the night angry with her, the angels curse her until morning”. [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
Husband: Your Gateway to paradise: Your husband is your gateway to paradise and not your optional worship and Islamic activities and knowledge. If your husband is pleased then Insha’Allah you have a ticket to paradise so in fact you have it pretty easy if you chose to conform with the commands of Allah (SWT) & His Rasool (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam)
Umm Salamah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: Messenger of Allah (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said, “Any woman dies while her husband is pleased with her, she will enter Jannah”. [At-Tirmidhi].
Violence & Abuse: No one is suggesting that you need to put up with physical violence or abuse and in those circumstances refer the matter to Ulamah who can advise you on the matter and offer correct Islamic guidance.
Unfulfilled & incomplete Relationships : Again you need to refer the matter to Ulama who can advise you on the matter and offer correct Islamic guidance and if you are patient then you will be rewarded and if you continue to look after your family and your husband when your rights are not being granted then know that Allah (SWT) is with those who are patient and Insha’Allah your rewards will become apparent the minute your eyes are closed. Be pleased with your Taqdeer (destiny) and know that this world is a place of test and Allah (SWT) is testing you to raise your ranks on the day of judgement.
Did you think your life will turn out to be a Bollywood Love Story? My daughter, you are a believer and you have been put on this Earth to be tested. If you thought that a handsome young man with ample finances will wish you away and shed his blood on every post your tear falls then wake up to reality! Allah (SWT) is Haakim and he chooses for his servants what he wills. Maybe some of your friends have a loving husband, healthy children, big house and you may be missing some of things because Allah (SWT) wants to test you.
[29:2] Do people think that they will be left (at ease) only on their saying, .We believe. and will not be put to any test? [29:3] Indeed We have tested those who were before them. So Allah will surely know the ones who are truthful, and He will surely know the liars.
There were better, prettier and more intelligent women before you who were tested and know that you are being testing because Allah (SWT) loves you and desires good for you!
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “When Allah desires good for someone, He tries him with hardships.” [Sahîh al-Bukhârî]
My daughter, the best of the prophets were tested and even our beloved Nabi (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) was tested so know that they weren’t tested because they were hated but they were tested because they were beloved and the closer a person gets to Allah (SWT) and to our beloved Nabi (Sallaho Alaihe Wassallam) by following his Sunnah the more you will be tested.
YOU are superior to the Hoors of paradise! It’s the favourite pastime of men to discuss and talk about the Hoors of Jannah and bedazzled by their beauty and their sincere and devoted love for them but did you know that YOU are superior to those Hoors which men aspire to?
Umm Salamah (May Allah Be Pleased With Her) narrated that she asked the Messenger of Allah, ‘ O Allah’s Apostle, are the women of this world superior to the hoor of jannah?’ He replied, (Salahuaalyhi wasalam) ‘ The women of this world will have superiority over the hoors just as the outer lining of a garment has superiority over the inner lining. Umm Salamah then asked, ‘ O Allah’s Apostle, what is the reason for this?’ He answered, ‘ Because they performed salah, fasted and worshipped [Allah]. Allah will put light on their faces and silk on their bodies. [The human women] will be fair in complexion and will wear green clothing and yellow jewellery. Their incense – burners will be made of pearls and their combs will be of gold. They will never die. We are the women who will always remain in comfort and we will never leave. Listen, we are happy women and we will never become sad. Glad tidings to those men for whom we are and who are for us. (Tabarani)
YOU will PROUDLY PROCLAIM your superiority to Hoors of paradise! Insha’Allah if you are patient with your Taqdeer and look after your husband and your family YOU will one day respond to the Hoors and proclaim your SUPERIORITY to them.
Imam Qurtubi in his “at-Tadhkirah fi-Ahwalil Mawta wa’l-Akhirah (in Remembrance of the Affairs of the Dead and Doomsday)” and Ibn Kathir in his “al-Bidaya wa’n-Nihaya (Kitabu’l- Fitan wa’l-Malahim) the Termination of the Afflictions and Fierce Battles” tell the story of the songs of houri in heaven: “Houri will sing for their own husbands, songs are so marvelous that every hearer will be so pleased. Houri will say: “We are Houri who has not had a sin.
” The women of this world will reply them saying: “We are the fasters (who keep fast), and you are not, we are the prayers, but you are not and we are the givers of charity but you are not.” And there is another narration which is famous with the name “Hadith of Soor” narrated from Abu Hurayrah (R.A.) that the Prophet Muhammad said that: “Every man in heaven will go to 72 of the creatures of Allah (houris) and 2 of the women of mankind, these two women are superior to the creatures of Allah (houris) with their worshipping (good deeds) they had performed in this world.”
Decision Time? Now that you have read about your rank in paradise, its time to make a decision. You can serve your husband and overlook his mistakes and errors in providing you with your rights and accept his authority , be pleased with what Allah (SWT) has destined for you and then attain a rank in paradise superior to Hoors
OR
You can assert your superiority, demand equal treatment, step out in the world to earn your place, busy yourself in Dawah etc and jeopardise your afterlife.
The choice is yours.

Sickness and other difficulties that we undergo in this worldly life should not only be seen as a misfortune or as an expression of the displeasure of Allah Ta’ala. For those servants of Allah who enjoy a very special relationship with Him,

it is a means of great blessing and a mercy. Is there anyone in this world who is free from sins and mistakes?

If every soul were to be fully recompensed for its every action, then apart from the sinless Prophets of Allah, the Ambiyaa (Alaihimus salaam), nobody else would be worthy of entering into Jannah. Man commits minor and major sins all the time, but the difficulties and hardships that he undergoes in this world like illness, grief and sorrow, etc. become the atonement for his sins and in this way he is cleansed of his sins in this very world.

Allah Ta’ala is so relenting and lenient with the Ummah of His beloved Nabi Muhammad (sallalaahu alaihi wasallam) . However, it has been observed that because of a lack of proper Deeni knowledge, very often even when a Muslim becomes ill, many incorrect statements are uttered by the sick person as well as those who treat and take care of him.

To seek a cure for one’s illness and to take treatment for it is certainly not forbidden in Islam. In fact it is a Sun-nah.

There is also no harm if a person complains about pain in the body. However, when a person becomes sick and then complains bitterly and objects to Allah Ta’ala, showing disrespect and ingratitude to Him, this amounts to destroying his own rewards.Whether we are healthy or sick, we should be thankful to Allah Ta’ala in all conditions.

Life and death are in the hands of Allah Ta’ala alone.

A person who is sick should regard his sickness as a gift and a special sign of mercy from Allah. When he realises this, then at every moment he will be thankful to Allah Ta’ala. Furthermore, thosewho take care of the sick, like doctors and nurses, should understand firstly, that the service they are rendering will certainly earn them great sawaab (reward from Allah Ta’ala) and secondly, that they are fulfilling a part of huqooqul ibaad (i.e. the rights of Allah’s creation).

Every Muslim doctor, nurse and sick person should learn what our Beloved Nabi, Muhammad (Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) has said regarding illness and disease. Our Nabi Muhammad (Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam)  has taught us that a person is tested according to the level of Deen present in his life. If he is firm on his Deen then the test is correspondingly severe, and if he is weak on his Deen then the hardship is made easy upon him. (Timizi, Ibn Maajah)

Aa’isha (Radiyalaahu anha) says, ‘I have never seen anybody suffering from sickness as much as Allah’s Messenger (Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam).’ (Sahih Bukhari)

Hadrat Aa’isha (Radiyallahu anha) also narrates that Rasulullah(Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) said,

‘When the sins of a person become so much that his good deeds are unable to wipe them out, then Allah Ta’ala lets grief overcome him in order to forgive his sins.’ (Musnad-Ahmad)

Similarly, Hadrat Abu Hurairah (Radiyallaahu anhu)  reports that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) said,

‘When Allah Ta’ala wishes good for a person, then he becomes afflicted with sickness (or hardship).’ (Sahih Bukhaari)

Sickness Compensates for our Sins

Hadrat Abdullah bin Mas’ood(R.A.) reports that Rasulullah(Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) said, ‘Whenever a Muslim experiences any hardship like sickness (etc.), Allah Ta’ala wipes away his sins just as a tree sheds its leaves during autumn.’ (Bukhaari and Muslim)

Hadrat Abu Hurairah(R.A.) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) said, ‘Afflictions continuously fall upon the lives, wealth and children of those men and women who have Imaan as a result of which, their sins keep falling off from them until such time that they (die and) meet Allah in the state that none of their sins remain.’ (Tirmiizi, Maalik)

Rasulullah(Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) has also said, ‘(Sometimes) a very high rank (in Allah’s sight) is decreed for a Mu’min which he could never have attained by virtue of his deeds, so Allah Ta’ala lets him experience some hardship, whether it be physical, material (financial, etc.) or concerning his children. Then, He makes him patient and lets him attain the position decreed for him.’ (Ahmad, Abu Dawood)

Therefore, although it is bitter to bear calamities and misfortunes with patience, we should consider it sweet in view of the great bounty attainable through it. The difficulty and hardship of only a few days will be followed by a life of eternal happiness, Insha-Allah.

Hadrat Abdullah bin Umar(R.A.) reports that Rasulullah(Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam)said, ‘When a (righteous) person (who dutifully performs his ibaadah) becomes sick, the angels appointed to record his deeds are instructed by Allah Ta’ala: Continue recording in his Book of Deeds those actions which he used to perform when he was healthy, until he either gets better or I call him unto Me.’ (Sharhus Sunnah)

Hadrat Jaabir(R.A.) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) said, ‘On the Day of Qiyaamah, when people will be rewarded in compensation for their suffering and difficulties in the world, then those people who had always lived a life of ease and comfort will (regretfully) wish that their skins were cut with scissors in the world.’ (Tirmizi)

Hadrat Aamir(R.A.) narrates that Rasulullah(Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) said, ‘When a believer falls sick and is then cured by Allah Ta’ala, his sickness atones for his sins and serves as an admonition to him for the future. But when a person who is unmindful of Allah Ta’ala gets ill and then recovers, (he does not take a lesson from it and) Ms example is like that of a camel which was tied by its master and then released by hm, yet it has no idea why it was tied or why it was freed.’ A man then asked, ‘O Messenger of Allah, what is illness? By Allah, I have never been ill in my entire life.’ Rasulullah(Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) said, ‘Go away from here! You are not from amongst us!’ (Abu Dawood)

Hadrat Abu S a’eed Khudri(R.A.) reports that Rasulullah(Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) said, ‘When a Mu’min experiences any fatigue, disease, sorrow, grief, hurt or distress, even to the extent that if a thorn has to prick him, Allah Ta’ala wipes away some of his sins for that.’ (Sahih Bukhaari)

Firm Faith in the Promises of Allah Ta’ala and His Rasul(Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam)

Hadrat Ataa bin Abi Rabaah(R.A.) relates, “Once Ibn Abbaas said to me, ‘Shall I tell you of a woman from amongst the People of Jannah?’ I said, ‘Yes.’ He said, ‘A certain black lady came to Nabi(Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) and said, ‘I get attacks of epilepsy and my body gets uncovered, so please invoke (i.e. make dua to) Allah for me.’Nabi(Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) told her,.’If you wish, you could be patient and you will enter Jannah; or if you wish, I will make dua to Allah to cure you.’ She replied, ‘I will remain patient,’ and added, ‘but I become uncovered, so please make dua to Allah for me that I do not become uncovered.’ So he made dua for her.” (Bukhaari and Muslim)

Glad Tidings for the Blind

Hadrat Anas bin Maa (R.A.) reports that he heard Rasulullah(Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) saying that Allah Ta’ala said, ‘If I deprive My slave of his two beloved possessions (i.e. his eyes) and he bears it patiently, I will let him enter Jannah in compensation for them. (Sahih Bukhaari)

Headaches – a Characteristic of the People of Imaan

Our beloved Rasulullah(Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) suffered very much from severe headaches and migraines. Sometimes, for days on end he would suffer extreme pain and would even deliver the khutbah (sermon) with his head covered in oily bandages.

Once, describing the People of the Fire (Jahannam), Rasulullah(Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) said, ‘They are those who do not suffer from pain in their heads.’ Just then a bedouin entered and he asked him, ‘O Bedouin! Did you ever experience this type of headache?’ He replied, ‘What is a headache?’ Rasulullah(Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) said, ‘It is the throbbing of veins in the head of a person.’ The man replied, ‘I have never experienced this.’ When the bedouin turned to go away, Rasulullah (Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) said, ‘Whoever wishes to look at a person from the People of the Fire should look at this Man.’ (Ahmad, Nasa-ee)

Ka’b Ahbaar(R.A.) says, ‘I have found (the following) in the Tauraah: Had it not been for the fear that My believing servants would become aggrieved, I would have sealed the head of a kaafir (disbeliever) with a bandage of steel so that he would never get a headache. “

Do not curse sickness

Once Rasulullah (Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) went to the home of Umm Saa-ib (Radiyallaaha anha) and asked her, ‘What is the matter? Why are you shivering?’ She replied, ‘I have a fever. May Allah not bless it! ‘ Rasulullah(Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) said, ‘Do not curse fever since it wipes out the sins of the Children of Aadam just as a furnace removes dirt from iron.’ (Sahih Muslim)

Hadrat Abu Moosa(R.A.) reports that Rasulullah (Sallallaahu alaiyhi wassallam) said, ‘When a person becomes sick or goes on a journey, then those (good) deeds are written down in his favour which he used to perform when he was at home and in good health.’ (Sahih Bukhari)

Q. Please throw some light on the Sufi Tariqahs in West and North Africa. Who  was Shaikh Abdul Qaadir Jilaani and Shaikh Tijaani?

A. The Tariqahs today are generally  sects of bid’ah, baatil and shirk. Most of the tariqahs have deviated into shirk and bid’ah. It is not permissible to join any of these deviated tariqas.  Shaikh Abdul Qaadir Jilaani (rahmatullah alayh) was one of Islam’s greatest Auliya. However, those who in this age claim to be following his Tariqah are deviates. They have added much shirk and bid’ah to his Tariqah. Sheikh Tijaani was a deviate. His tariqah was a deviate sect right from the very beginning.

The two-faced person

Alah Ta’ala says:
“When they meet those who believe they say: “We believe,”but when they are alone with their evil one’s, they say, “We are really with you we are only jesting.”

Allah Ta’ala further says:
“[They are] swaying between this and that belonging neither to these nor to those…”

Abu Hurayrah Radiallahu anhu narrated that the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said:
“The worst people before Allah on the Day of Resurrection will be the two-faced people who appear to some people with one face and to other people with another face.”

Anas Radiallahu anhu narrated the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam saying:
“He who is two-faced (in this world) will have two tongues of fire on the Day of Resurrection.”

pride

Allah says:

“Allah does not like those who are self-deluding, proud and boastful.”

He further says:

“Allah does not like any self-deluded and boastful.”

In another place the Almighty says:

” And indeed, what an evil abode will be for the arrogant.”

Ibn Umar reported that the Messanger of Allah Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said,”Avoid pride, for a man may be proud owing to a cloak he puts on.”

Ibn-e- Mas’ood reported that Allah’s messanger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “He who has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of pride will not enter paradise.” A man remarked, “O’ Allah’s messanger, a man likes his garment to be beautiful and his shoes to be beautiful.” The Prophet replied, “Allah is beautiful and likes beauty, pride is disdaining the truth (with arrogance, vanity) and despising people.”

Haritha ibn Whab reported Allah’s messanger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) as saying: “Shall i inform you of the inhabitants of the (Hell) fire? They are, The cruel, the proud and the conceited persons’.”

Abu Saeed (Radiallahu anhu) reported that the prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “He who is humbel for Allah’s sake to a degree, Allah will exalt his status to one grade until He makes his abode in the higher rank of the High Places (i.e. in paradise). If anyone is proud against Allah’s orders to a grade, Allah will degrade him until he will put him to the lowest of the low places (i.e. in Hell).”

Vanity

Allah says:
”And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord”
It is narrated that Ibn Masood Radiallahu anhu said: ” Destruction consists in two things, despair and vanity.” And Abu Bakr Radiallahu anhu reported that a man prased another man greatly in front of the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam. The Prophet alaihis salaam said to him: ” Woe to you! You have cut of your companions neck…” and repeated it many times and and then added, ” One of you who cannot help expressing praise for his brother should say, I think he is so-and-so– in case he really found him such–and Allah knows the truth, and I do not confirm anybody’s good conduct before Allah.”
Harith ibn Mu’awiyah related that he told Umar ibn al Khattaab Radiallahu anhu: ” People used to entice me to tell them stories,” to which he replied, ” I am afraid that when you tell them stories you may consider yourself great amongst them: and when you do that often, they may consider that you in the star constelation above them! Thus Allah, will put you down under their feet on the Day of Resurrection as much as that.”
Anas Radiallahu anhu related that the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said,” If you had not inned, I would have feard for you what is more seious than vanity.”

HYPOCRISY AND OSTENTATION

Allah says:
”Whoever hopes for the meeting with his Lord, let him do righteous work and not associate in the worship of his Lord anyone.”
Jundub ibn Abdullah Radiallahu anhu reported tha Allah’s messanger Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said:
“He who lets people hear of his good deeds intentionally to win their praise, Allah will let them know his real intention (on the day of resurrection): and he who does good things in public to show off and win the praise of the people, Allah will disclose his real intention (and humiliate him).”
Umar Radiallahu anhu narrated Allah’s Messanger Sallallahu alaihi wasallam as saying: “Actions are to be judged only by intentions, and a man would have only what he intended.”
Abu Hurairah Radiallahu anhu related that the Messanger of Allah Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said:
The first persons to be judged on the Day of Resurrection will be three:

1. A man who died as a martyr in Allah s path. He will be brought forward, and after Allah has reminded him of the favours He bestowed on him and the man acknowledges them, He, the All-High, will ask, ‘What did you do to show gratitude for them?’ The man will reply, ‘I fought in Your cause until I was killed.’ Allah will say, ‘You have lied, you fought so that people might call you courageous, and they have done so.’ Command will then be issued against him, and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell.

2. A man who acquired and taught knowledge and read the Qur ‘an will be brought forward, and after Allah has reminded him of the favours He showed him and the man acknowledges them, He will ask, ‘What did you do to show gratitude for them?’ The man will reply, ‘I acquired and taught knowledge and read the Qur ‘an for Your sake.’ Allah will say, ‘You have lied, you acquired knowledge so that people might call you learned, and you read the Qur ‘an that they might call you a reciter, and they have done so.’ Command will then be issued against him, and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell.

3. And then a man whom Allah made affluent and whom He has given all kinds of property will be brought forward, and after Allah has reminded him of the favours He showed him and the man acknowledges them, He will ask, ‘What did you do to show gratitude for them?’ The man will reply,  ’I have not neglected to give liberally for Your Sake to all the causes approved by you for this purpose.’ Allah will say, ‘You have lied, you did it so that people might call you generous, and they have done so.’ Command will then be issued against him, and he will be dragged on his face and thrown into Hell.,,»14

Tirmidhi transmitted the above hadith with the addition that Mu’awiyah (Radiallahu anhu) wept on hearing this hadith and recited Allah’s saying:

“Whoever desires the life of this world and its adornments – We fully repay them for their deeds therein … “ (Qur ‘an 11: 15)

Exultation

Allah (Ta’ala) says:

“Verily, he was among his people in joy!” (Qur’an 84: 13)

Allah (Ta’ala) also says:

“They will say, ‘Aforetime, we were afraid [of the punishment of Allah] in the midst of our families.’(Qur’an 52: 26)

And Allah’s saying:

“So, when they forgot [the warning] with which they had been reminded, We opened to them the doors of every [pleasant] thing, until, when they rejoiced in that which they were given. We seized them all of a sudden and they were [then] in despair.” (Qur’an 6: 44)

Despair of Allah’s mercy and security from the plan of Allah

Allah (Ta’ala) says:

“… Certainly no one despairs of Allah’s Mercy except the people who disbelieve.” (Qur’an 12: 87)

“… None feels secure from the Plan of Allah, except the people who are losers.” (Quran 7: 99)

Ibn Mas’ ood (Radiallahu anhu) said: “The greatest of the major sins are associating partners with Allah (in His being attributes and/or worship), feeling secure against the Plan of Allah, despair of Allah’s mercy and despair of Allah’s soothing mercy.”

Ibn ‘Abbas (Radiallahu anhu) was asked: “What are the major sins?” and he answered, “Associating partners with Allah (in His being, attributes, and in the exclusive rights such as worship), feeling secure against Allah’s Plan and the despair of Allah’s soothing mercy.”

Being suspicious of Allah

Allah (Ta’ala) says:

“ … Moved by wrong suspicions of Allah; the suspicions due to ignorance … “(Qur’an 3: 154)

Allah the Glorious says:

“And that was your assumption, which you assumed about your Lord, it has brought you to ruin … “ (Qur ‘an 41: 23)

And Allah’s saying:

“… who imagine an evil opinion of Allah: on them is a round of evil…” (Quran 48: 6)

It is narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (Radiallahu anhu): “The greatest of major sins is having an evil opinion of Allah.”

Jabir (Radiallahu anhu) related that he heard Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) saying three days before his death: “See that none of you dies without having good expectations from Allah.”

Ibn Abu ad-Dunya added: “For some people’s wrong assumption about Allah they were brought to their destruction.”

Allah (Ta’ala) said:

“And that was your assumption which you assumed about your Lord. It has brought you to ruin, and you have become among the losers.” (Qur ‘an 41: 23)

Abu Hurayrah (Radiallahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Allah said, I am to my slaves as he thinks of Me.”

In another version, Ahmad and Ibn Hibban added: “If he assumed good of Me, he will have it, and if he assumed evil (consequence and bad) of Me, he will have it.”

Pride and mischief

Allah says:
“That home of the hereafter [i.e. Paradise], We assign to those who rebel not against truth with pride and oppression in the land nor do mischief by committing crimes…”
Anas (Radiallahu anhu) reported that the Allah’s messanger (Sallallahu alaihi wasalam) said: “None of you will have true Faith until he wishes for his (Muslim) brother what he wishes for himself.”
Abu Muhammad Abdullah ibn Amar ibn al ‘Aas (Radiallahu anhu) narrated that Nabi Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: ” None of you believes until his desire follows what i have brought.”

ENMITY AND HATRED

Allah says:
” If you differ in anything amongst yourselves, refer it to Allah and His Messanger.”
and Allah says:
“There is for you an excellent example [to follow] in Ibrahim (Alaihis salaam)

Immorality

Allah says:
” Indeed, those who like that immorality-illegal sexual relations, be spread and propagated among those who believe, will have a painful punishment.”
Allah Ta’ala says:
“If they are sincere to Allah and his Messanger, there is no cause for reproach against those who do good.”

Loving Allah’s enemies

Allah says:
“You will ot people who believe in Allah and the Last Day, loving those who oppose Allah and his Messanger even though they may be their fathers.”
Allah says further:
” Say, if your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your kindred, the wealth that you have gained, the commerce in which you fear a decline, and the dwellings in which you delight are dearer to you than Allah or His Messanger, and the striving in his cause, then wait until Allah brings about His decree. And Allah guides not the evil-doing folk.”
Allah says:
“And incline not to thse who do wrong, lest the Fire touch you…”
Abu al-Aliyah said (it means), “Do not be pleased with their deeds.”
It is related that Ibn Abbas (Radiallahu anhu) said (it means): “Do not turn towards them (the evil-doers) altogether in love, tender words and friendship.”
Ibn Masood (radiallahu anhu) reported that Allah’s Messanger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Everyone will be with those whom he loves.”
Hardness of hearts
Allah Ta’ala says:
“So because of their breach of their covenant, We cursed them and made their hearts grow hard … ” (Qur ‘an 5: 13)
Allah Ta’ala says:
“Allah has revealed the fairest of statements, a Scripture [this Qur'an]  consistent, [wherein promises of reward are] paired [with threats of punishment], whereat does tremble the skins of those who fear their Lord, then their skins and their hearts soften to Allah’s reminder … “(Qur ‘an 39: 23)
Allah the All-Glorious says:
“Is not the time ripe for the hearts of those who believe to submit to Allah’s reminder and to the truth which is revealed … ” (Qur ‘an 57: 16)
Ibn ‘Amr (Radiallahu anhu), related from the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) that he said:”Be merciful, Allah will be merciful on you, pardon people, Allah will pardon you, woe to those you suppress testimony. Woe to those who are obstinate, and persistent in doing wrong and do it knowingly.”
Imam Tirmidhi related a report from Ibn ‘Amr (Radiallahu anhu) that the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Do not speak much without mentioning Allah, for much talk without remembering Allah causes hardness of heart, and the one who is farthest removed from Allah, is he who has a hard heart. ,,”
It is narrated on the authority of Jabir (Radiallahu anhu) that the Prophet
9Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: “Allah will not show mercy to him who is not merciful to people. Allah will not be mercifull to him who does not show mercy to people.”

Imam Tirmidhi related a report from Ibn ‘Amr (Radiallahu anhu) that the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Do not speak much without mentioning Allah, for much talk without remembering Allah causes hardness of the heart, and the one who is farthest removed from Allah, is he who has a hard heart. ,,”
It is narrated on the authority of Jabir (Radiallahu anhu) that the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: “Allah will not show mercy to him who is not merciful to people. Allah will not be mercifull to him who does not show mercy to people.”
Tenderness of hearts
Allah (Ta’ala) says:
“We gave strength and firmness to their hearts … “
(Qur’an 18: 14)
Allah (Ta’ala) also says:
“Alif-Lam-Meem. Do men imagine that they will be left [at ease] because they say, We believe, and will not be tested with affliction? Lo! We tested those who were before them, for Allah will surely know those who are sincere, and will know those who feign [are evident liars (Qur 'an 29: 1-3)
 Allah the All-Gracious says:
"They said: '0' Moosa [Moses]! In it [this holy land] are a people of great strength … ‘) (Qur’an 5: 22)
Allah (Ta’ala) says:
(And of the people are some who say, ‘We believe in Allah.’ But one is harmed for the sake of Allah, they consider the trial of mankind as Allah’s punishment…) (Qur’an 29: 10)
Ibn Umar (Radiallahu anhu) reported Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) as saying: «”The Muslim is he from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe, and the Muhajir (emigrant) is he who abandons what Allah has prohibited. »

The major sins of the tongue:

Evils of the tongue

Allah (Ta’ala) said:

“The [faithful] slaves of the Beneficent [Allah] are they who walk upon the earth modestly, and when the foolish ones address them [harshly] they answer: Peace.” (Qur ‘an 25: 63)

And Allah (Ta’ala) says:

“And when they hear ill speech – al-Laghw, they tum away from it…” (Qur ‘an 28: 55)

Allah (Ta’ala) also says:

“Not a word does he utter but there is a watcher by him ready [to record it].”(Qur ‘an 50: 18)

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayrah (Radiallahu anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “He who believes in Allah and the Last Day should say what is good, or keep silent. “

Sahl ibn Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) as saying: “Whoever guarantees (the chastity of) what is between his two jaw bones (i.e. mouth and tongue) and what is between his two legs, (i.e. his private parts) I stand guarantee for him Paradise.”

Sufiyan ibn ‘Abdullah (Radiallahu anhu) related that he asked: “0′ Allah’s Messenger, what is the thing you fear most for me?” The Prophet took hold of his own tongue and replied, “Restrain this.”

Mu’adh ibn Jabal (Radiallahu anhu) reported, that he asked: “0′ Messenger of Allah! Shall we really be punished for what we talk about?” to which he replied, “I am surprised Mu’adh! Will anything but the harvest of their tongues overthrow men in Hell on their faces,” –or he said,” on their nostrils?”

Abu Sa’eed (Radiallahu anhu) narrated Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) as saying: “When a man gets up in the morning all the limbs humble themselves before the tongue and say, ‘Fear Allah for our sake, for we are dependent on you, if you are straight we are straight, but if you are deviated we are deviated.’ “

Abu Hurayrah (Radiallahu anhu) related that the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “A man speaks a word without considering it of any importance, yet for it he will sink down into Hell further than the distance between the East and the West. “

Bilal ibn al-Harith (Radiallahu anhu) reported that the Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “A man speaks a word pleasing to Allah, not realising that it is worth so many rewards, for which Allah records for him His Good Pleasure till the Day he meets Him, and a man speaks a word displeasing to Allah, the All-High, not realising that it leads to so many sins for which Allah records for him His Displeasure till the Day he meets Him.”

Jundub ibn ‘Abdullah (Radiallahu anhu) related that Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) as saying: “A man said, ‘I swear by Allah, that Allah will not forgive so and so,’ whereupon Allah said, ‘who is this man who swears that I will not forgive so and so? For I have forgiven so and so and have made his (the speaker’s) deeds to come to nothing.’ “

It is reported that the man who swore was a pious and God-fearing man. Abu Hurayrah said one should speak in words that preserve his world and Hereafter.

Talking too  much

Allah Ta’ala says:

” Lo! There are above you guardians [Angels], generous and recording, who know [all] that you do.”

Al-Mughherah ibn Shu’ba (Radiallahu Anhu) reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: ” Allah has made it unlawful for you to be undutiful to your mothers, to bury your daughters alive, to refuse to help the poor and others, and to beg things from men. Allah dislikes for you three things: engaging in (sinful and) useless talk, asking too many (and unnecessary)questions (about religious matters)and squandering wealth.”

Jabir (Radiallahu anhu) related that the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: ” People dearest to me and seated nearest to me on the Day of Resurrection from amongst you will be those who have the best characters, and most helpul to me and seated furthest away from me on the Day of Resurrection will be those who speak much and are loud-mouthed, and who are proud.”

Artificiality and ranting

” And when you look at them, their bodies please you; and when they speak, you listen to their words…” (Quran 63:4)
Ibn Umar Radiallahu anhu reported that the prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: “An eloquent speech may have the influence of magic.”
Ibn Umar Radiallahu anhu also reported that the prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: ” Allah hates the (artificial) eloquent among men who moves his tongue round among his teeth as cattle do (whilst grazing).”
Abu Hurairah Radiallahu anhu reported that the prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: “Allah will not accept repentance or ransom on the Day of Resurrection from the one who learns excellence of speech to captivate thereby the hearts of people.”
Mua’wiyah Radiallahu anhu reported that, “Allah’s Messanger Sallallahu alaihi wasallam cursed those who articulate words (for show) distinctly as they do with poetry.”
Prolonged disputes

Allah Ta’ala says: ”And of the people is he whose speech pleases you in the worldly life, and he calls Allah to witness as to what is in his heart, yet he is the most contentious of enemies.” (Qur’aan 2: 204)
A’aishah Radiallahu anha narrated that the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: ” The man who is most hateful to Allah is the one who quarrels and disputes the most.”
Ibn Abbas Radiallahu anhu reported that the Prophet Sallalahu alahi wasallam said: “It is a serious enough fault-sin-for you to keep  on contending.”
People fear for one’s evil tongue

Allah Ta’ala says:
“Woe to every slanderer and backbiter.”
A’aisha Radiallahu anha narrated that Allah’s Messanger Sallalaahu alaihi wasallam said: “The one who will have the worst position in Allah’s estimation on the Day of Resurrection will be the one whom the people leave for fear of the harm or evil he might do to them.”

Immorality and obscenity

Allah the All-Glorious says:

“Those who witness no falsehood and, if they pass by futility, they pass by it with honourable [avoidance]. (Qur’an 25: 72)

Ibn Mas’ ood (Radiallahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “A believer is not given to abusing others or cursing them, nor is he immoral or shameless.”

Abu ad-Darda’ (Radiallahu anhu) related that the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “There will be nothing heavier, which will be put on the believer s scale on the Day of Resurrection than good character. And Allah hates the profligate and the obscene, who is loose in speech. “

‘A’ishah (Radiallahu anha) reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Gentleness is not introduced into any affair without beautifying it, and is not withdrawn from any affair without making it ugly.”

Ibn Mas’ood (Radiallahu anhu) narrated that the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Shall I not tell you who is kept away from Hell and from whom Hell is kept away? From everyone who is gentle and kind, approachable and of easy disposition.”

Jareer (Radiallahu anhu) reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “He who is deprived of gentleness is deprived of every good.”

Falsehood and lying

Allah (Ta’ala) says:

“Only they invent falsehood who believes not Allah’s revelations, and [only] they are the liars)

(Qur ‘an 16: 105)

Allah (Ta’ala) says:

“And for them is a painful punishment because they [habitually] used to lie.” (Qur’an 2: 10)

Allah the All-Glorious says:

“Woe to every sinful liar.” (Qur ‘an 45: 7)

Ibn Mas’ood (Radiallahu anhu) reported that the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Truthfulness leads to righteousness and righteousness leads to Paradise. A man speaks the truth and makes truth his object until he is written as eminently truthful with Allah. Falsehood leads to wickedness and wickedness leads to Hell-Fire. A man speaks falsehood and makes falsehood his object until he is written as a great liar before Allah.”

In another version: “If a man continues to speak falsehood and makes falsehood his object he will have a black mark put on his heart, until his heart is blackened completely and he will be recorded before Allah as one of the liars.”

Safwan ibn Sulaym (Radiallahu anhu) reported that Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) was asked: Whether a believer could be a coward to which he replied, “Yes.” He was then asked whether a believer could be a miser and he replied, “Yes.” He was then asked whether a believer could be a (great) liar, he replied, “No.”

Ibn ‘Umar (Radiallahu anhu) reported that Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said:

“When a man lies the angel moves away from him the distance of a mile.”

 Breaking one’s covenant

Allah (Ta’ala) says:

“So He has made the consequence [to be] hypocrisy in their hearts until the Day when they shall meet Him, because they broke their word to Allah that they promised Him, and because they lied.”

(Qur ‘an 9: 77)

Abu Hurayrah (Radiallahu anhu) reported that Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “There are three signs of a hypocrite; when he speaks he lies, when he makes a promise he breaks it, and when he is entrusted he betrays his trust.”

Ibn ‘Umar (Radiallahu anhu) reported that Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “There are four characteristics constitute anyone, whoever possesses them is a sheer hypocrite, and anyone who possesses one of them possesses a characteristic of hypocrisy until he abandons it.

They are: When one is entrusted he betrays his trust, when speaks he lies and when he makes a covenant he acts treacherously and when he quarrels he deviates from the truth (also he uses abusive language). “

Saying what you really do not know

Allah Ta’ala says:

“Behold, you received it on your tongues, and said out of your mouth things of which you had no knowledge, and you thought it to be a light matter, while it was most serious in the sight of Allah.”

Allah Ta’ala says:

“O’ you who believe! If a sinner-a wicked- comes to you with any news, ascertain the truth, lest you harm people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful.”

Ibn Mas’ood or Hudhayfah Radiallahu anhum reported that the messanger of Allah Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: ” It is a bad riding-beast for a man to say something he does not really know.”

Abu Hurayra Radiallahu anhu reported that Allah’s messanger Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: ” It is enough to to render a man a liar that he narrates and communicates whatever he hears.”

Alah Ta’ala says:

“They said, “You make a laughing stock of us?” He said, ” I seek refuge in Allah from being among the ignorant!”

Flattery and false praise

Allah Ta’ala says:

” …and shun the world that is false.”

‘Abdullah Radiallahu anhu said: “A man goes out of his home with his Deen, and when he meets someone he needs for some affairs begins to say to him, “You are so and so”, overly praising him so that he may attend to his affairs. Allah will be displeased with him and he will come back having lost his religion.”

Allah says:

” Have you not turned to those who claim purity for themselves? Nay, Allah purifies whom He will…”

Miqdad Radiallahu anhu reported that a person began to praise Uthman Radiallahu anhu, where upon Miqdad sat upon his knees and began to throw dust upon his (the flatterer’s) face. Thereupon Uthman Radiallahu anhu asked: What is the matter with you?” And he said that Allah’s Messanger Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: When you see those who are given to praising people throw dust in their faces.”

Mu’awiyah Radiallahu anhu reported that Allah’s Messanger Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: “Avoid praising people, for it is as if you have slaughtered them!”

Lies eradicate blessings

Hakeem ibn Hizam Radiallahu anhu reported that the prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: “Both parties in a buisness transaction have a right to annul it so long asa they have not separated, and if they tell the truth and make everything clear they will be blessed in their transcaction, but if they conceal anything and lie then the blessing on their transaction will be wiped away.”

Lies about dreams

Ibn Abbas Radiallahu anahu reported that the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said:

“If anyone pretends to have a dream which he did not see wil be given (on theDay of Resurrecyion) the task of tying a knot between two barley grains, but he will be unable to do so.”

Diseases of the heart and matters which deaden the heart

“In their hearts is a disease. So Allah has increased their disease; and for them is a painful punishment because they [habitually] used to lie … “(Qur ‘an 2: 10)

Allah (Ta’ala) says:

“If the hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease, and the alarmists [those who spread rumours] in the city do not cease, We verily shall urge you on against them, then they will be your neighbours in it but a little while. Accursed, they will be seized wherever found and slain with a [fierce] slaughter)” (Qur ‘an 33: 60-61)

Abu Hurayrah (Radiallahu anhu) reported that Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “When a believer commits a sin a black dot is made on his heart. Then if that person leaves that sin and repents, his heart is cleared (from that covering dot), but if he repeats the sin then that dot (stain) goes on increasing till his heart is completely covered with it,” and that is ‘ar-Ran’ which Allah mentioned in the Qur ‘an, as follows:

“Nay! But on their hearts is the Ran [stain of the evil deeds] which they used to earn.”

Al-A’mash said that, Mujahid explained the meaning of the above mentioned Qur’anic verse (83: 14) gesturing with his hand and said: “They used to consider that the pure heart is like this palm, but if a slave commits a sin, his heart will be covered like this, ‘then he grasped his little finger,’ and when he commits another sin it will be covered like this, – ‘and he grasped another finger – until he completely grasped all of his fingers.’ Then he said, ‘A seal will be put over it, and that is the rust or the stain of the heart.’”

It is also narrated that Mujahid said: “The rust of the heart is less severe than the sealing, and the sealing is less severe than the heart being totally locked in.”

Abu Sa’eed (Radiallahu anahu) reported that Allah’s Messenger (Sllallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “The heart is of four types.

1. A pure (and open) heart, free from hatred (and ill feelings), something like a brilliant lamp,

2. A hardened (and covered) heart, enclosed in a sheath,

3. An inverted heart, and

4. A plated and flattened heart.

The pure heart is that of a believer; its lamp contains the light of faith. The hardened (and covered) heart is that of an unbeliever. The inverted heart is that of a pure hypocrite who knew the truth and then denied it. The plated and flattened heart contains faith and hypocrisy, the faith is like a green plant which is watered with good water, and hypocrisy is like an ulcer which is supplied with pus and dirty blood, so whichever one of faith or hypocrisy gets the upper hand over the heart will be the pre-dominator.”

Satisfaction with disobedience

It is narrated that Ibn Mas’ood (Radiallahu anhu) said: “You are destroyed if your heart is not acquainted and satisfied with what is just and denies what is evil.”

‘Abdullah ibn Mas’ood (Radiallahu anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “There was no Prophet whom Allah raised up among his people before me, who did not have among his people followers and companions who held strongly to his Sunnah andfollowed what he commanded them with, they were then succeeded by people who said about the Sunnah but did not practice themselves and did things they were not commanded to do. So he who strives against them with his hand is a believer, he who strives against them with his tongue is a believer, and he who strives against them with his heart is a believer. Beyond that there is no faith left even a grain of mustard seed weight.”

Umm Salama Radiallahu anha) reported that Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said:

“Rulers will be appointed over you, and you will find them doing good as well as bad deeds. The one who hates their bad deeds is absolved from blame, and the one who disapproves of their bad deeds is safe. But one who approves of their bad deeds and follows them (is a loser).”

“Hating and disapproving” refers to liking and disliking from the heart. Another version of the tradition, on the same authority has the addition, “And those who followed them are destroyed.”

Desiring and craving

It is narrated on the authority of Abu Bakrah (Radiallahu anhu) that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: «”When two Muslims face each other with their swords, the murderer and the murdered will go to Hellfire.” People asked, ’0′ Allah’s Messenger! This is understood for the murderer, but what was wrong with the one who is murdered?” The Prophet replied, “He surely had the intention to kill his companion.”

Abu-Kabsha al-Anmari (Radiallahu anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: «”The likeness of this Ummati (nation) is like the four types of men,

1. A man whom Allah bestowed wealth and knowledge, wherewith he acts in accordance with his knowledge.

2. A man whom Allah bestowed knowledge but not wealth and riches, who says, ‘Had I wealth such as so-and-so, 1 would act as he does.’ their rewards are equal.

3. A man whom Allah bestowed wealth but not the knowledge, and he acts in an ignorant manner not knowing what he must do and what he must not.

4. And a man whom Allah bestowed with neither wealth nor knowledge, who says, ‘Had I wealth like so-and-so has, I would deal with it as he does.’ The load they have to bear, are equal.’

Doubting in faith

Allah (Ta’ala) says:

“The believers are the only ones who have believed in Allah and His Messenger, and then doubt not (Qur ‘an 49: 15)

Allah the All-Glorious says:

“And who believe in that which is revealed unto you [Muhammad] and that which was revealed before you, and are certain of the Hereafter. These depend on guidance from their Lord, and these are the successful (Qur’an 2: 4-5)

Allah (Ta’ala) says:

“And when it was said, ‘Lo! Allah’s promise is the truth, and there is no doubt about the Hour’s coming, you said, ‘We know not what the Hour is. We deem it nothing but a conjecture and we are by no means convinced.tf (Qur ‘an 45: 32)

Mu’adh(Radiallahu anhu) used to say in all his sittings every day, and rarely missed it: “Allah is a just Judge, those who doubt this are destroyed. “

Ibn Mas’ood (Radiallahu anhu) said: “It is a sign (proof) of belief that you do not try to satisfy anyone by doing what displeases Allah, or praise someone for what Allah has granted you, or blame somebody for what Allah has deprived you. Allah, with His Knowledge and Justice, provided ease and high spirits in firm faith, and put grief and anxiety in doubt and discontentment. Allah’s Sustenance could not be brought by the care of a careful man, or be prevented by the hatred of a hateful man.”

‘Umar (Radiallahu anhu) said on the Day of Hudaybiyah: “I made up for that by many good deeds.”

This gives the meaning of the hadith narrated by Ibn ‘Abbas (Radiallahu anhu): “He tasted the relish (sweetness) of ‘Eemaan (faith) – pleased with Allah as Lord, with Islam as religion, and with Muhammad as the Messenger. “

Discontentment

Allah Ta’ala says:

” If anyone believes in Allah, He guides his heart [aright]…”

Alqamah said explaining this verse, ” When a man suffers a calamity and he knows that it is from Allah, he feels contented and submits to it and this springs from the conviction of his faith.”

Anas (Radiallahu anhu) reported that Nabi Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: “When Allah loves a people He afflicts them, and those who accept it gladly receive Allah’s Good Pleasure, but those who are displeased receive Allah’s displeasure.”

Anxiety

Allah the All-Gracious says:

“… Allah sent down His tranquillity to His Messenger and to the believers … “(Qur ‘an 48: 26)

Allah the All-Glorious says:

“But no, by your Lord, they can have no Faith until they make you [0' Muhammad Sallallahu alaihi wasallam] judge in all disputes between them. .. “ (Qur’an 4: 65)

“[To the righteous soul will be said], ’0′ [you] soul, in complete rest and satisfaction! Come back to your Lord, well-pleased [yourself], and well-pleasing unto Him!” (Qur ‘an 89: 27-28)

Abu Hurayrah (Radiallahu anhu) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “The brave is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the brave is the one who controls himself while in anger.”

Abu Hurayrah (Radiallahu anhu) said that a man asked the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) to give him an advice, the Prophet said: “Do not be angry.” The man repeated that several times and every time the reply was, “Do not be angry.”

Abu Dharr (Radiallahu anhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “He is successful whose heart Allah made sincere towards faith, whose heart He made free from unbelief, his tongue truthful, his soul tranquil, his nature straight, whose ear He made attentive and eyes observant. The ear is a funnel and the eye is a repository for what the heart learns. He is successful whose heart is made retentive.”

Doubt

Allah says: ” Many are the Jinn and men We have made for Hell, they have hearts wherewith they understand not…”

Ibn Abbaas, Muaawiyah Radiallahu anhum and others narrated that the Messanger of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “When Allah wishes good for anyone He makes comprehend the religion.”

Al Bara ibn Aazib (Radiallahu anhu) reported that the Messanger of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: ” A man who lives in doubt, when he dies, two angels come to him and his him, “Who is your Lord? What is your religion? Who was the Prophet sent to you?” He will answer the two angels, “Alas alas i do not know! i heard the people saying something so Ii said it.”

Concealing acts

Allah Ta’ala says: “They can hide [their deeds] from the people , but they cannot hide them from Allah for He is with them [by his knowledge]…”
Abu Mas’ood Radiallahu anhu narrated that the Messanger of Allah Sallallahu alihi wasallam said: “One of the things people have learned from the words of the earlier Prophets is, “If you have no shame, then do whatever you like.”"

Greed for property and status

Ka’b ibn Maalik Radiallahu narrated that nabi Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said,” Two hungry wolves let loose amongst sheep are not more destructive than the greed of a man for property and staus are to his religion.”

Impatience and cowardice

Allah Ta’ala says:’ Verily man was created very impatient, irritable [discontented] when evil touches him. And niggardly when good reaches him except those who pray.”
Abu Hurairah Radiallahu anhu narrated the Prophet Sallallau alaihi wasallam said: “The worst things in a man is impatience, niggardliness and unresatrained cowardice.”
Jabir Radiallahu anhu narrated the Prophet of Allah Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: “Beware of niggardliness, for niggardliness destroyed your predecessors, inducing them to shed one another’s blood and treat forbidden things as lawful.”

Stinginess

Allah Ta’ala says: ”And in their wealth there is a due share for the beggar and the deprived.”
In another place Allah says: ” Those who are miserly and enjoin miserliness on others…”
Jabir Radiallahu anhu narrated that the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said:” O’ Banu Salama! Who is your chief?” They replied, “Al Ja’d ibn Qays, but he is a stingy man.” He said, ” And which disease is worse than being stingy? No, your chief is ‘Amr ibn al-Jamouh.”

The punishment of miserliness

Allah Ta’ala says: ” And let not those who covetously withhold of that gifts which Allah has given them of his grace, think that it is good for them. Nay, it [miserliness] will be worse for them, soon it will be tied to their necks like a twisted collar, on the Day of Judgement…”
Asma binti Abu Bakr Radiallahu anha narrated that the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said to her: ” Do not shut your money bag, otherwise Allah will withhold his blessings from you.”
In another version: ” Spend and Allah will spend on you.”
Abu Huraira Radiaalhu anhu narrated that the Messanger of Allah Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: ” Two angels come down (from the heaven) and one of them says, ‘Oh’ Allah! Compensate every person who spends in your cause’, and the other (angel) says, ‘O’ Allah! Destroy every miser.’”

Hating the righteous people

Allah Ta’ala says: ” And those who come after them say, ‘Our Lord! Forgive us, and our brethren who preceded us in faith and put not in our hearts [any] resentment towards those who have beleived. Our Lord! You are all kind, All Merciful.’
Abu Hurairah Radiallahu anhu narrated that the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: “Allah says: ‘The one who shows hospitality towards my wali (a pious worshipper of mine), he called me to duel with.”
Abu Hurairah Radiallahu anhu narrated that the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: “Whoresoever believes in Allah and the last Day, does not hate the Ansar (Medinite Muslims – Helpers of the Prophet in Madeenah).”

Envy

Allah Ta’ala says: “Or do they envy people for what Allah has given themof His bounty…?”
Anas Radiallahu anhu reported that the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said,” None of you will have full faith until he wishes for his  (Muslim) brother what he wishes for himself.”
Abu Hurairah Radiallahu anhu narrated that the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said,”Beware of envy as it devours good deeds just as fire devours fuel (wood or grass).”

Evil thoughts about Muslims

Allah Ta’ala says: ” O’ you who believe! Avoid much suspicion, indeed some suspicions are sins…”
Abu Hurairah Radiallahu anhu reported that the Prophet Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: “Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the worst form of false talk-lies”

Telling lies against Allah and His Messenger Sallallahu alaihi wasallam

Allah Says:” Who does more aggression and wrong than he who invents a lie against Allah…”

Allah says:” On the Day of judgement you will see those who told lies against Allah,- their faces will be turned black…”

Anas ibn Malik Radiallahu anhu narrated that the Messanger of Allah Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: “Ascribing false things to me is not like ascribing false things to anyone else. Whoever tells a lie against me deliberately will occupy his seat in Hell-Fire.”

Samurah ibn Jundub Radiallahu anhu narrated that the Messanger of Allah Sallallahu alaihi wasallam said: “If anyone relates a tradition from me thinking that it is false, then he is one of the liars.”

Speaking about Allah without knowledge

Allah Ta’ala says: “Say, ‘My Lord forbids only indecencies [shameful deeds – alFawahish], such of them as are apparent and such as are within, and sin and wrongful oppression, and that you associate with Allah that for which no warrant [authority] has been revealed. and that you tell concerning Allah that which you know not.” (Qur’an 7: 33)

Abu Moosa (Radiallhu anhu) said: “Anyone to whom Allah granted knowledge must teach it to other people and must never say what he is not sure about, otherwise he will be a pretender. or will be astray from the true religion.”

Ibn ‘Amr (Radiallahu anhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Allah does not take away the knowledge by removing it from the heart of men, but He takes it away by the death of the (religious) learned men till when none of the (religious) learned men remains, then people will take ignorant men as their leaders. Cases will be presented to them and they will pass judgement without knowledge. So they will go astray and lead others astray.”

False testimony

Allah Ta’ala says: “… and shun false statement.”

Ibn ‘Umar Radiallahu anhu narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Birds will flap their wings and throw out the score they will have because of the awe of the Day of Resurrection, but the feet of him who witnesses falsehood will not move till he enters his abode in Hell.”

Abu Bakrah Radiallahu anhu narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Beware of false statement, beware of false witness, and he kept on repeating till we said to ourselves if he could stop.”

Ibn Mas’ood Radiallahu anhu narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “If anyone takes an oath, and appropriates by it a property belonging to a Muslim, without any legitimate right, Allah will be Angry, when He meets him on the Day of Resurrection.” Then Allah’s Messenger recited:

“Lo! Those who purchase a small gain at the cost of Allah’s covenant and their oaths, they have no portion in the Hereafter …”

Abu Umama Radiallahu anhu narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Whosoever appropriates the rights of a Muslim illegitimately, Allah will be angry on him when he meets Him.” In another version it relates, “Allah has made Hell compulsory for him and deprived him from Paradise.” A man asked, whether that applied to even a small amount, and he replied, “Even if it were a stick from the Arak tree.”

Slandering chaste believing women

Allah (Ta’ala) says:

“Those who slander chaste, indiscreet and believing women are cursed in this life and in the Hereafter. For them is a grievous penalty.” (Quran 24: 23)
Abu Hurayrah (Radiallahu anhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said: “Avoid the seven great destructive sins. The people enquired, ’0′ Allah’s Messenger! What are they?’ He said,

1. To join others in worship along with Allah,
2. To practice sorcery,
3. To end the life which Allah has forbidden except for a just cause (according to Islamic Law),
4. To eat up Riba’ (usury),
5. To eat up an orphan’s wealth,
6. To show ones back to the enemy and fleeing from the battlefield at the time of fighting, and
7. To accuse of adultery, chaste women, who never think of anything touching chastity and are good believers.’

When Allah Ta’ala  ordered Nabi Musa (alayhis salaam) and
Nabi Haaroon (alayhis salaam) to go  to Fir’oun, He, (Allah
Ta’ala) admonishing them, said:
“Do not be awed by the external garb of Fir’oun, for verily,
his forelock is in My control. He can neither talk, blink or
breathe without My permission. Do not be attracted to whatever
he is enjoying,  for verily, it is nothing but worldly splendour
and adornment (which will perish).
If you desire that I adorn you with worldly splendour
which would convince Fir’oun that his worldly power  cannot
match yours, it is within my power to do so. But I divert your
attention from  that (splendour of the world) and make you to
recoil from it. This is how I deal with My Auliya. I save them
from the bounties of the world like a caring shepherd protects
his flock from dangerous pastures. I distance My Auliya from
the delights of this world like a camel herd protects his camels
from deceptive places.
This I do to them not because they are insignificant to Me,
but so that they can receive from the bounties which I have
treasured for them (in the Aakhirat).
For My Sake, My Auliya adorn themselves with humility,
fear, devotion and piety which sprout from their hearts and
become manifest on the bodies. These are the attributes of their
garments which they don; their inner being which they
perceive; their salvation with which they attain their goal; their
hope with which they desire; their grandeur with which they are
proud, and their salient  mark with which they are recognized.
If you meet them, be humble to them. Submit your heart and
tongue to them. Whoever threatens My friend, has declared war
on Me. I shall exact vengeance on his behalf on the Day of
Resurrection.”

Assalamu-Aalykum

Human nature, unless corrupted, does not gain pleasure from displeasure. Thus, we find ourselves dreading the displeasure of people! Displeasure displays itself in various ways. When people are displeased with us or we are displeased with anyone, the displeasure would be conveyed in some way or the other.

We will perhaps be cold towards that person. We may even avoid that person. A person may tell someone even to get lost. However, the strongest revulsion must surely be when we tell someone “don’t even come near to me”.

Our beloved Nabi Salallahu alaihi wasallam displays such revulsion to those who do not perform Qurbani despite the means to do so, that he has banned them from coming even NEAR to THE Eidghah. Hadhrat Abu Hurairah Radiallahu anhu narrates that Rasulullah Sallahu alayhi wasallam said that the person who has means of performing Qurbani but does not do so should not even come NEAR our Eidghah.

The Best of Days are these Days. And the Best of Deeds in these days is  the deed of Qurbani.

Sayyidatuna Aa’ishah (Radiyallahu Anha) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “There is nothing dearer to Allah Ta’ala during the days of Qurbani than sacrificing of animals. The sacrificed animal shall come on the Day of Judgment with its horns, hair, and hooves (to be weighed). The sacrifice is accepted by Allah before the blood reaches the ground. Therefore sacrifice with an open and happy heart” (Tirmizi, Hadith #: 1493)

The Spirit of Qurbani: O, they looked like a bunch of wild unkempt tramps, these brothers of ours who were seen red-blood eyes. It was just after Eid-ul-Fitr. A mini bus filled with them with a trailer filled with bags and cooler boxes etc. Tired and fatigue was written all over their faces. It appeared that they returned from some war.

Their story is truly amazing. Year after year, they set out immediately after Eid-ul-Fits to search the mountains and the farms, the ranches and small holdings for the best of the best animals to please Allah Ta’ala. The search will continue for at least a week. Allah Ta’ala had blessed them with plenty of wealth. They wish to give Allah the Best of animals. And so they travel and take notes. And so they travel and debate. And so they travel and leave aside their comforts and families. They ache and they bleed, they despair and they fear failure. The best of animals it has to be. It is nopt just giving money or writing a cheque…it is something much more. It is eyes that search and scrutinise the animal. It is analysing the animal from tail to teeth. It is the sheer joy of beholding the beauty of the animal.

By Allah, even the angels marvel at this spirit, this understanding of what Qurbani is, this Love and Devotion unto Allah, Most High, this fierce commitment to find the best of the best! May Allah Taa’la make us like them where our faces become radiant with joy at the sight of the qurbani animal. May our hearts beat with Love for that Allah who has given us so much and asked for so little in return.

Therefore sacrifice with an open and happy heart”.

It has been mentioned that after being saved from the raging inferno of Namrud, as a token of Love and appreciation unto Allah Subhanahu wata’ala, Hadhrat Ebrahim alaihi salaam sacrificed 1000 rams, 300 oxen and 100 camels. When someone praised this enormous sacrifice,

Hadhrat Ebrahim alaihi salaam said:

“These sacrifices are nothing. Allah Ta’ala owns me and whatever I have. If I had a son, I would have sacrificed him as well!”

Allah Ta’ala granted him a son. Thirteen years after he made his statement, Allah Ta’ala reminded him of his words. Hadhrat Ebrahim alaihi salaam rose to the occasion and was prepared to match his words with deeds. What a level of Sidq (Truthfulness)!

On the other hand, how often do we not make boastful claims without realizing the implications of what we say? Many woman in angrily demand Talaaq; others challenge the husband to take another wife; husbands threaten that they will find another better wife; businessman make rash pledges — and yet when Allah Ta’ala puts one to test, we hopelessly fail.
