A RECENT television show revealed the secret production and supply of ‘artificial’ or ‘synthetic’ milk to the people of Karachi. The technology of this questionable product has travelled from India and taken firm roots in suburban areas of Punjab and Sindh.
It is estimated that 15 to 20 per cent of total milk supplies in urban areas of Pakistan is from synthetic milk, i.e., two million litres a day.
The worst-case scenario is that this trend of preparation of synthetic milk is fast gaining its way in rural villages where dairy plants make huge purchases of milk for making blended packaged milk.
When this liquid is tested for butterfat or solid non-fat by government agencies or dairy professionals, it conforms to real milk parameters, thus passing a test for its purchase by dairy factories and testing authorities.
This milk is especially harmful for young children and pregnant women. It slowly makes the body prone to many ailments.
Besides the use of synthetic milk by many urban dwellers, the milk production from dairy animals is plagued by the use of synthetic hormone like bovine somatotrophin (BST) and oxytocin. Both these hormones are banned in the EU, Canada and many other countries. Even in India, oxytocin has been banned for the last 40 years.
In Pakistan, the use of somatotrophin is so prevalent that millions of cows/buffaloes are injected with this hormone to get an additional amount of milk at the cost of human and animal health.
Many health groups in the US claim that the use of growth hormones (BST) speeds up the development of antibiotic resistance and increases the level of protein that has been associated with cancer.
Keeping in view this concern, some of the producers of milk in the US are compelled to label their products with ‘No added growth hormones’.
Another hormone oxytocin which is injected on almost all lactating animals is filtered into the milk and it has been held responsible for uterine cancer, male impotence, baldness and early puberty in human beings. It is particularly harmful to the eyes of children.
This hormone in the shape of injection is used to let down milk under its influence. Millions of vials are sold by the pharmaceutical industry/animal health professionals daily to milk producers in Pakistan with the connivance of drug/health and livestock authorities.
No NGO or any government department has created awareness among the people about the use of such milk.
The health authorities should evolve simple testing procedures and dairy plants should be encouraged to buy only milk which is free from all such impurities.
Our Pure Food Act needs revamping. Besides, an exemplary punishment should be given to defaulters. NGOs’ role is of primary importance for creating awareness so that people should consume safe and wholesome milk only.

Breastfeeding Week: Do what’s best for your baby, say docs

KARACHI: Doctors and experts hashed out the age-old debate on whether breast milk or bottle milk is better for a baby at the International Breastfeeding Week Seminar, organised by the Sindh health department and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on Friday.

The indicators of breastfeeding are extremely low in Pakistan, said the World Food Programme manager, Dr Durre Shehwar Khan. She said that breast milk not only provides nutrition, hydration and protection against infection and allergies for the babies, but is also beneficial for the mothers.

Dr Shehwar said that mothers should start breastfeeding the baby within one hour of birth and continue to do so till six months of age as it meets all dietary requirements of the baby. She added that it is also proven that babies who are breastfed are more confident, and have a greater IQ.

Dispelling the myths about breastfeeding, Dr Shehwar said that it is wrong to say that malnourished mothers should not follow the practice or that the mother should stop feeding if the baby has diarrhea.

Dr Yasir Ehtesham from UNICEF opposed artificial feeding, saying that it is not sterile, it is costly in time, resources and care, and is more dangerous as difficulties in cleaning the bottle could lead to infections.

Dr Shehwar said that the government of Pakistan passed the ordinance of children’s nutrition for the protection and promotion of mother’s milk in 2002 and in 2009 which states that no product can be advertised as a substitute to mother’s milk.

But there is no strict implementation in Pakistan and ads of baby supplements and cereals can be seen everywhere, she pointed out.

KARACHI: While most Pakistani parents cannot afford to fork out Rs8,400 to have their toddlers inoculated against rotavirus – which causes most diarrhoea cases – it can be kept at bay by something that doesn’t cost a single paisa: breastfeeding.

At a session on childhood diseases organised on Thursday at the Sheraton Hotel by the public service unit of the Health Awareness Society, doctors banished misconceptions about rotavirus and told the audience how it could be prevented. The virus causes 125 million bouts of diarrhoea in children under five globally – around 85 per cent of the cases occur in developing countries like Pakistan. It kills between five and 10 million children on the planet each year.

The virus damages the intestines and prevents the absorption of essential nutrients and water, leading to dehydration and ultimately, death. Symptoms include vomiting and frequent, loose motions followed by fever. A child might die within a week if the virus is not treated. Children under the age of two can contract the virus several times until their immune system becomes powerful enough to fend it off. Bottle-feeding and poor hygiene were deemed as the main factors behind rotavirus as well as a whole host of other diseases.

Prof. MA Arif, who is associated with the National Institute of Child Health and Aga Khan University Hospital, said that diarrhea is the most common cause of child mortality in Pakistan – a trend found across the globe.

He recalled that back when oral rehydration sachets – popularly known as ORS – were not available in Pakistan, children would be strewn all over the floor of Civil hospital, waiting for some relief against a potentially fatal bout of diarrhoea.

“The disease claimed four lives each day.” He said that though a vaccine is now available to help decimate the incidence of the virus and reduce its severity anywhere between 65 and 80 per cent, even middle-income families are opting not inoculate their children.

Prof. Arif also pointed that children are less likely to fall sick in areas of the city that are relatively cleaner. “There are fewer complaints of diarrhea in Defence and Clifton as compared to Machhar Colony,” he said.

Battling ear infections

While cotton buds are often thought of as hygiene-boosting tools, using them improperly can lead to more harm than good. Dr Salman Matiullah, an associate professor at Dow International Medical College, said that an increasing number of children are being brought to him for the treatment of Acute Otitis Media, an inflammation in the middle ear. Most cases have been caused by the excessively rigorous use of cotton buds.

He said that the disease is the most common bacterial infection in children below five. The most common symptom is high-grade fever. Irritability, crying inconsolably and tugging at the ear are tell-tale signs that a baby has been infected. In such cases, the parents should have their children diagnosed.

The disease can be bacterial or viral bottle-feeding, allergy, a parental history of otitis media and prenatal smoking make babies more likely to catch it. It is also common in children with other medical conditions such as Down’s syndrome.

Dr Matiullah said that mothers should avoid cleaning their babies’ ears with cotton buds or putting oil in them. “Children, like adults, have a natural lining that prevents any dirt and even insects from entering the ear cavity.”

The infection can be treated by inserting a ventilation tube in the ear. Earlier, many people could not afford to treat their children as the tubes used to cost up to Rs2,000. But now, they can be imported from India for nearly one-tenth that price. However, more severe forms of the disease necessitates surgery.

Dr Matiullah said that prevention is more cost-effective than treatment. The flu vaccine as well as Xylitol, a sugar substitute found in chewing gums, can prevent it.

What would you say if I told you that cow’s milk may not be as good for you as you might think? The idea that the milk that we know and love might actually be bad for us is not exactly an accepted idea in American society.
We see commercials produced by the diary industry plastered with facts about how milk can help us lose weight and lower our cholesterol and prevent osteoporosis. We use sayings that link milk to purity (‘as wholesome as milk’) almost from day one. In fact, if there’s one thing that most of us know for a fact, it’s that milk is good for you.
According to The International Dairy Foods Association (IFDA), milk contains all the essential nutrients that our bodies need to keep us healthy. It contains calcium to prevent osteoporosis, phosphorus to help our bodies absorb the calcium, protein to help our bodies build and repair body tissue, riboflavin to help keep our skin healthy and many, many health benefits. And all we need do is consume three cups a day, every day for good health.

No one I ever knew questioned the benefits of milk consumption until I started doing research on the subject. And while there is some truth in the IFDA’s claims, there’s a great deal that the IDFA leaves out.

Claim # 1 – Milk helps prevent osteoporosis

I’ve worked in health care for a few years and I’ve always found it strange how people just discovering they have osteoporosis have said to me something along the lines of; “But I drink milk! Lots of it!”. If Milk helps prevent osteoporosis, how can you still get it?

According to the Surgeon General’s 2004 report on Bone Health, an estimated 1.5 million people over the age of 50 have bone diseases such as Osteoporosis and Osteopenia. Consider, if most people in the consume dairy products (that includes, milk, cheese, ice cream, etc.) how is it that 1.5 million people are still being diagnosed with bone loss?
Dairy products do contain a great deal of calcium, more than enough for the human body. However, it also contains a great deal of protein and sodium and not nearly enough of potassium and other essential vitamins. The end result is your body losing calcium at the same time as absorbing it. In other words, the more diary you eat, the more calcium you lose.

Claim # 2 – Milk can help you lose weight and prevent heart disease.

Everyone knows that milk contains fat. The IFDA claims that the fat in milk contains “fat soluble vitamins” necessary to a healthy diet.

The fat in diary products makes up about 5 percent of saturated fats, which sounds pretty low until one considers the recommended allowance of saturated fats (according to official U.S. dietary guidelines) is only 10 percent. That means that milk alone provides half of what the recommended allowance is for consumption of saturated fats.

In defense of the IFDA, milk does contain a more than enough B12 – a necessary vitamin that reduces the levels of homocysteine – but considering how much saturated fat is in milk and also considering the fact that you can get just as much (if not more) B12 from certain vegetables without the risk of adding saturated fats to the equation, this negates the argument that ‘milk may prevent heart disease’.

Claim # 3 – Milk is one of the most wholesome foods a person can consume.

In 1993, the FDA approved the use of injecting rBGH, or Bovine Growth Hormone, into cows to make them produce more milk. This hormone has been linked to a good number of diseases, most notably cancer, cystic ovaries, and a host of digestive problems.

Dairy cows already produce a natural form of rBGH, or BST. This hormone increases the Insulin Growth Factor 1 (IGF-1) levels in milk and is actually been shown to be beneficial for growth and development in children and babies. However, studies have shown that it also causes cancer cells to develop. When the amount of IGF-1 is increased because of the increased amount of BST in the cow, what happens is the IGF-1 becomes less of a benefit to human cells and more of a risk.

IGF-1 has been found in patients suffering from prostate, breast, and colon cancer and while the American Cancer Society has stated that “Extensive testing and research has shown that rBST is indistinguishable from natural bovine growth hormone and thus entails no health risks for consumers”, they make no mention of the increase of IGF-1 in cow’s milk and its effect on human cells.

Now, I’m not above the argument that cow’s milk still has benefits to good health. Given that it is fortified with vitamins that we all need, it can be suggested that dairy products have their good points. But an informed decision to consume milk is far better than an uninformed one. There are plenty of other foods that can give the human body what it needs and more without the risk factors that milk poses on the human body. A proper diet doesn’t have to consist of cow’s milk or any other diary product derived from it.

Powdered coffee ‘creamer’ isn’t food, it’s processed chemicals

(NaturalNews) Every day, millions of Americans add powdered coffee “creamer” products to their morning cups of joe because they falsely believe that these substances are somehow healthier than real cream. But little do they know that most coffee creamer products contain no actual cream, or food for that matter, as they are really nothing more than a crafty blend of toxic chemicals.

When powdered coffee creamers first came onto the scene back in the 1950s, they actually contained real dehydrated cream and sugar, which made them a convenient, non-perishable source of cream for coffee. Over time, however, manufacturers began to phase out the cream, and replace it with things like processed vegetables oils, stabilizers, chemical sweeteners, and other additives that were less expensive and that more easily dissolved in coffee.

Today, the average canister of so-called “creamer” substitute contains not a trace of actual food, at least not food in the technical sense of the word. Not only is there no “cream” of any kind in Coffee-Mate’s Original Powder, but there are also no natural food ingredients whatsoever. This is why some countries actually require that powdered coffee additives be called “whiteners” rather than “creamers,” since they do not actually contain any real cream.

Corn syrup solids and hydrogenated oils are highly-toxic ‘non-foods’
Though both are derived from real food, corn syrup solids and hydrogenated oils are not technically foods themselves. To produce corn syrup solids, corn kernels are first transformed into corn starch, which is then chemically treated with hydrochloric acid, a highly-corrosive, industrial chemical solution that is also used to make plastic materials. The resulting liquid goo is then processed again and dried to form dried crystals — delicious, eh?

And hydrogenated oils are produced using a similar chemical process that involves subjecting already heated, pressurized, and highly processed oils to various chemical catalysts and metals such as nickel and platinum that change its density and molecular structure. Then, there are ingredients like sodium caseinate, a milk derivative; mono- and diglycerides; sodium aluminosilicate; and artificial flavor, all of which are non-foods as well. The chemical alteration is so significant that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not even consider the final product to be a dairy product.

And sodium aluminosilicate is an anti-caking, flow agent chemical additive produced specifically for use in processed food items, laundry detergents, and other dry, powdered products. FDA says fresh milk is dangerous, but chemical BPA is perfectly safe!

(NaturalNews) The FDA, the organization that conspired with California bureaucrats to attack raw milk distribution centers over the past two years, has just announced it will not ban BPA. The FDA says there isn’t enough evidence of BPA being harmful to humans (that’s a lie) and therefore it cannot be justifiably banned.

The real story here, however, is that the FDA routinely allows toxic and even deadly chemicals to remain legal in the food supply while working to ban dietary supplements and nutritional support products that are actually good for you. The FDA, for example, hasn’t outlawed aspartame, MSG, sodium nitrite, partially-hydrogenated oils, high-fructose corn syrup or even petroleum-derived artificial colors. Instead, it focuses its regulatory power on outlawing Chinese Medicine herbs, nutritional supplements and natural sweeteners. The FDA positions synthetic chemicals as if they were nutrients
Meanwhile, the FDA has never met an industry-sponsored toxic chemical it didn’t like. Whether it’s BPA, or sodium benzoate, or fluoride, if Big Pharma or the chemical industry is behind it, the FDA magically and consistently declares the chemical to be good for you!

That happens, of course, because the FDA is a gang of back-stabbing criminals who betray the American people at every opportunity while “approving” deadly pharmaceuticals, vaccines and chemical food additives for mass consumption.

BPA, for the record, has been linked to cancers and hormone disruptions, and this happens at ridiculously low levels of contamination (parts per billion). But the FDA looks at this and thinks, “This could be HUGE for the pharmaceutical business!” The more people are sickened by BPA, in other words, the more people eventually buy high-profit prescription drugs to treat the symptoms brought on from the consumption of BPA. It’s all about the continuity of profits for the FDA’s buddies at Big Pharma.

Follow the money: $8 billion in BPA revenues

The FDA, of course, has a long history of protecting the profits of the chemical industry rather than protecting the health interests of the people. It’s yet another piece of evidence adding to the mountain of proof that the FDA is a clear and present danger to the health and safety of the American people.

Call for ban on BPA chemical in baby bottles

(NaturalNews) Seven leading scientists have sent a letter to the United Kingdom’s Health Secretary, Andy Burnham, urging him to ban the use of the endocrine-disrupting chemical bisphenol-A (BPA) in products intended for use in feeding infants.

“We urge you now to adopt a standpoint consistent with the approach taken by other governments who have ended the use of BPA in food contact products marketed at children,” they wrote.

BPA is used to make hard, clear plastics for products such as baby bottles, food containers and water bottles. It is also used to make resins that line cans of food and infant formula.

Numerous studies have linked the chemical to reproductive harm, especially in fetuses and infants. It has also been shown to increase the risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer, and to cause cognitive damage and abnormal behavior. The Canadian government has banned its use in baby bottles, a number of retailers throughout North America have pledged to stop carrying infant products that contain it, and some North American manufacturers have voluntarily ceased using it.

Like the U.S. FDA, however, the U.K.’s Food Standards Agency continues to insist that BPA is safe.

“Keeping BPA baby bottles on the shelves is not an option,” said Clare Dimmer of Breast Cancer UK. “It should be very simple, if there is serious scientific evidence that a chemical in baby bottles could increase the risk of life-limiting illness, it shouldn’t be used. It is time government stepped in to ban the bottle.”

According to a recent poll, two-thirds of U.K. residents believe that the use of BPA in baby bottles should be prohibited.

“As a medically qualified pathologist and parent to an eight-month-old baby boy, I feel that it is essential for the government to heed our call for precautionary measures to limit exposure of BPA to very young children,” said Vyvyan Howard of Ulster University, one of the letter’s signatories.

NA body told packed milk unhygienic, association denies

ISLAMABAD: The NA committee on Finance Friday was informed that packed milk openly sold in the country was far below the quality and unhygienic standards applicable in the world.

Most of the milk packed companies were earning super normal profit by purchasing milk from milkman at Rs 20 to Rs 30 per litre and sold in open market at Rs 68 per litre. The PML-N MNA Khawaja Asif informed the members that once in a conference held at Cambridge USA, a British person informed White Poison was provided to Pakistani citizens in milk pack.

According to a survey conducted by Consumer Rights, the PML-Q MNA Riaz Fatayan informed the committee that bleach powder, urea fertilizer and other massive adulteration were carried out in packed milk in Pakistan. The fresh milk having nothing except contaminated water, he added.

Kashmala Tariq said in India, the multinational companies’ 49 percent share were distributed among the local partners and the remaining for foreigners but in Pakistan the government provided free hand to these companies.

She suggested the government should revisit its policy over transferring of earning by foreign companies. Faisal Saleh Hayat informed the committee the multinational companies extended their donations under Corporate Social Responsibility among relatives of the officials working in other organisations including in education, health other fields.

He informed the committee farms and the milk packed companies purchased milk at Rs 20 per litre and sold it after packing for Rs 68 per litre. There was huge profit margin for these companies, he claimed.

Representative of Pakistan Dairy Association, Fakhar Ahmad told the committee there were government laboratories and their milk might be tested any-where. He claimed the Lahore High Court judgment already exists in the country. The milk packed companies paid Rs 83 billion taxes per annum to the government and actively provided donations to hospitals, schools, prisons and other social welfare organisations.

Pasteurized milk 150 times more contaminated with blood, pus and feces than fresh milk – videos the CDC won’t show you

(NaturalNews) The vaccine-pushing, disease scare-mongering agency known as the CDC has put out a stunning piece of propaganda attacking fresh milk (raw dairy), claiming it is “150 times more dangerous” than pasteurized milk. This is all part of their anti-American agenda to crush food freedom and criminalize fundamental farming practices upon which this very nation was founded. (Yes, George Washington and the founding fathers drank raw milk, grew hemp and even smoked a little weed as medicine.)

But what the CDC won’t dare reveal to the public is the far more horrifying truth: Pasteurized dairy is produced in the dirtiest milk factories imaginable, where blood, pus, e.coli and other truly dangerous pathogens are routinely bottled into milk containers and fed to consumers.

That’s the whole point of pasteurization, you see: To kill everything that might be alive in their ultra-dirty milk. The real purpose of pasteurization is not to simply “make milk safe” as is claimed by the CDC, but rather to allow the dairy industry to operate DIRTY. It’s so much easier to just cook the crap out of the milk (yes, there’s fecal matter in it) than to clean up their operations, get it?

Thanks to pasteurization, conventional (non-organic, non-raw) dairy operators have no need to thoroughly wash their milking machines, no need to sterilize any milk containers, no need to wash their hands, and no need to maintain a clean milking environment whatsoever. When you buy pasteurized milk at the grocery store, you are supporting an industry that tortures cows and produces a dirty, filthy product!

Of course, the dairy industry would much rather force everybody to pasteurize their milk and outlaw clean raw dairy than to clean up their own act. That’s the whole point of the CDC going after raw dairy: To destroy the raw dairy industry and force everyone to drink dirty, contaminated pasteurized milk that’s extracted from tortured cows.

So get it through your heads, folks: If you buy pasteurized, homogenized milk, you are supporting an industry of filth, torture, infected animals and dirty, dirty milk.


Blood, pus, bacteria and fecal matter – drink up, kiddies!

The reason all that milk has to be pasteurized is because it’s strongly contaminated with:

• blood
• pus
• bacteria
• fecal matter

In addition, conventional dairy cows are:

• Pumped full of bovine growth hormones
• Fed masses of antibiotics
• Fed tons of GMOs such as corn and soy
• Heavily contaminated with chemical pesticides

That’s what you get when you buy “Pasteurized” milk. Plus the feces in the milk, of course.

In fact, if you took a gallon of unpasteurized milk from a conventional dairy and you compared it to a gallon of unpasteurized milk from a quality-certified raw milk dairy, I have no doubt you would find that the conventional dairy has at least 150 times the level of blood, pus, feces and dangerous bacteria (if not more).

So it’s no surprise to see the CDC promoting pasteurized milk — the very product whose digestive enzymes have been destroyed so that it causesallergic reactions in those who consume it.

Pasteurized, homogenized milk also promotes heart disease, obesity, autoimmune disorders, constipation, sinus congestion and many other chronic health conditions. It is the perfect food for the uninformed masses who the U.S. government seems to be trying to keep in a state of lifelong disease and medical enslavement.
